The Definition of BODY THETAN (old)

Please see Postulate Mechanics: Dianetics Theory

Scientology provides the following definitions associated with BODY THETAN (BT).

.

Scientology Technical Dictionary

Please see The Definition of THETAN.

Let’s examine the definitions for BODY THETAN given in the OT materials:

“BT 1. By BODY THETAN is meant a thetan who is stuck to another thetan or body but is not in control. BTs stick to pictures, other BTs and clusters. A BT can go into a valence of anything – BTs can be being anything at all.”

A BT is an anomaly that exists at the deep level of beingness. A BT is, therefore, perceived as something like a thetan that is stuck to the body. The BT exists at such a deep level, that it influences all thinking and behavior. It underlies all facsimiles that are addressed on Scientology Grades.

“BT 2. Body thetans are just thetans. When you get rid of one he goes off and possibly squares around, picks up a body or admires daisies. He is in fact a sort of cleared being. He cannot fail to eventually, if not at once, regain many abilities. Many have been asleep for the last 75 million years.”

A BT is an “individuality” that simply doesn’t fit with rest of the elements of a particular beingness. It may fit with some other package of beingness. This may actually happen.

“BT 3. Huge amounts of charge have already been removed from the case and the body thetans by Clearing and OT 1 and OT 2 to say nothing of engrams and lower grades.”
… “IMPLANT, 1. a painful and forceful means of overwhelming a being with artificial purpose or false concepts in a malicious attempt to control and suppress him.”
… “IMPLANT, 2. an electronic means of overwhelming the thetan with a significance.”
… “IMPLANT, 3. an unwilling and unknowing receipt of a thought. An intentional installation of fixed ideas, contra-survival to the thetan.”

BTs exist so deep in the psyche that they are said to be “implanted.” BTs do not surface until huge amount of charge in facsimiles and other layers submerging them has been resolved.

“BT 4. The pc cognites he is not running his own incident but a body thetan. This requires only TR 4 as it is only an origin.”

BTs are anomalies embedded in the viewpoint that distort the view of all incidents and other content on the time track. One only needs to discover and acknowledge these anomalies.

“BT 5.  BTs are sometimes not very bright and perceive poorly.”

BTs themselves are difficult to view because they are distorting the view itself.

“BT 6.  If a Pre-OT can put his attention on a BT and blow it off, without even working too hard at it, BTs, with their attention must be sort of blindly in-drawn.”

BTs appears to be lodged deeply but quite loosely in the mental matrix, as they resolve easily when attention is finally put on them.

Subject Clearing

Hubbard says, ”One’s body is a mass of individual thetans stuck to oneself or to the body. One has to clean them off by running incident II and Incident I. It is a long job, requiring care, patience and good auditing. You are running beings. They respond like any preclear. Some large, some small. Thetans believed they were one. This is the primary error. Good luck.” Essentially, a body thetan (BT) is a thetan stripped of all its capabilities and reduced to its most pathetic state.

According to Subject Clearing, BTs are misconceptions or postulated anomalies that have become part of a person’s beingness. Examples of BTs are “blind spots” like fixed ideas, false beliefs, biases, and prejudices. A specific blind spot could be a hidden consideration that one is superior to others. Such blind spots distort the person’s viewpoint and he can see neither the present nor the past as it is.

The Scientific Method

We don’t know everything. We find that there are gaps in what we know. To fill those gaps we make a postulate and develop a theory based on it. The theory then predicts phenomenon, which, if verified, validates the theory and the postulate. If it cannot be verified, then one goes back to the drawing board. This is the scientific method. Using this method we build up a network of postulates and considerations consistent with what we observe.

But how far can we go with this system. Can we know everything?

.

Dimensions and Duality

If we know everything, there would be no doubts, perplexities and confusions. There would be total certainty. There would not be any unanswered questions. One would be able to resolve any suffering; and a perfect life would be achievable.

But the universe is not unipolar. It has dimensions; and each dimension is made up of gradients that lead to two opposites. If there is perfection, there must also be imperfection. If there are things known, then there must be things unknown. If there are aspects of this universe that are knowable, then there must also be aspects that are unknowable.

.

Knowable and Unknowable

It is this Unknowable that Hinduism have labeled Brahman, and Judaism has labeled YHVH. It is the Unknowable that generates the knowable. The unknowable forms the background of all that is knowable.

If you look carefully, you will find that everything you know is based on your considerations. Yes, there are sensations that you pick up; but, then, your considerations interpret them for you. So, you only know your considerations. Beyond those considerations lies the unknowable. Hinduism defines Brahman as THAT which is not the outcome of any consideration. Judaism forbids the original pronunciation of YHVH.

.

Auditing the Unknowable

When we are resolving anomalies, we are auditing the Unknowable. The unknowable trickles into our consciousness in the form of intuition and becomes knowable. This process is endless.

Here is what Herbert Spencer wrote on the subject of Unknowable.

The Matrix Approach (old)

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

A matrix is a system of infinite number of elements, with each element capable of being a matrix in its own right.

This system is simple, yet it allows enough complexity to describe the Universe. Such complexity is necessary to address the anomalies existing in our view of the universe.

An anomaly is a variance between the way something appears and the ONENESS that should be there.

The anomaly is hidden under unreal beliefs and strange rituals. A doubt, uncertainty, confusion, contradiction, dissonance, conflict, etc., all point to some anomaly. Resolution of anomalies leads back to a natural equilibrium.

.

Resolving Anomalies

To resolve the anomalies in an area, one must identify them precisely. To do so one first examines the postulates existing in that area.

A postulate is a self-created truth based on which further reasoning is done. The postulates reconstruct the universe in our awareness. We experience a rock being solid. So we postulate the concept of solidity based on that experience. We then apply that concept to other things.

The objects of the universe are perceived based on our fundamental experience and postulates. Any anomaly exists only among the postulates that we have formed based on our experience. The postulates are found in the concepts supporting a subject. These concepts are expressed through Key words.

So, the first step of the matrix approach to resolve anomalies is to make a list of the key words in the area of interest. This list may consist of just three words or as many as fifteen to twenty words.

One then defines these words until all definitions are consistent with each other. The definitions are placed in a glossary for that area.

The words are then arranged in a sequence in which their definitions make the most sense. This is called the Key words list.

The definitions are continually refined throughout this process to make them increasingly consistent with each other.

As one continues with the above process the anomalies start to appear.

One then resolves the anomalies one by one, by closely examining the relationships among the key words and their definitions. This may require research, contemplation and even meditation.

It is likely that one may discover gaps among the definitions. So, one finds appropriate key words and their definitions to fill such gaps.

As the anomalies get resolved the complex situation starts to clear up.

The process follows a natural gradient such that there is no overwhelm at any point.

.

The Ultimate Background

The ultimate background is uniformly consistent on a universal scale.

(1) It is connected at all points. There are no discontinuities in it.

(2) It is consistent throughout. There are no contradictions.

(3) It is harmonious. There are smooth gradients at all points.

All theories that are consistent are part of this background. Such theories are also consistent with each other.

Anything that stands out against this background is then immediately recognized as an anomaly. An anomaly is any violation of the integrity of reality, such as, discontinuity (missing data), inconsistency (contradictory data), or disharmony (arbitrary data).

Once recognized, the anomaly may be resolved by making it consistent with the background,

The lesser are the anomalies in one’s thinking, the sharper is the power of observation of that person; and the more he can be counted upon to solve problems.

The Unknowable and “I”

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

The starting postulate of the Matrix Model to grasp the Unknowable is:

THE UNIVERSE IS ONE.

Actually, the universe, by its very definition, is ONE. The dictionary defines the origin of the universe as follows:

1325–75; Middle English < Old French univers < Latin ūniversum, noun use of neuter of ūniversus entire, all, literally, turned into one, equivalent to ūni- one + versus (past participle of vertere to turn)

From this starting postulate arise other postulates. For example, this universe is knowable because it is manifested. That which is not manifested is unknowable. All that is knowable is connected with each other. Wherever we notice discontinuity, inconsistency or disharmony, there is an anomaly. When there is an anomaly, something is missing from our knowledge and understanding; and so on.

Thus, from the starting postulate, there comes about a system of postulates. These postulates may be arranged in a matrix. Each postulate may be seen as an element of this matrix.

This procedure repeats itself with each postulate in this matrix. In other words, each postulate in this matrix may generate its own system of postulates, which may, in turn, be arranged in a sub-matrix. This recursive process may continue this way to an infinite number of levels of sub-matrices, until this system of postulates is able to describe the whole universe in a consistent fashion.

Does thus recursion go in the other direction as well, meaning, is the starting postulate itself is an element of a larger matrix? This is quite possible. It shall lead us into a path of tremendous discoveries.

For now, we may look at the universe as consisting of an infinity of elements, and all these elements relate with each other to make a consistent whole.

This is the matrix model in a nutshell.

.

The Being or “I”

The Being or “I” is a system of postulates that may be conceived as a matrix. This system of postulates may contain some degree of inconsistency. The aim of “I” is to make itself “complete.” In other words, the aim of “I” is to remove all inconsistencies from its system.

That is what my aim as a being or “I” is. I am a system of postulates that may be conceived as a matrix. My aim is to spot and resolve all inconsistencies in myself. At that point I shall be able to merge smoothly into the universal system of postulates, or matrix.
