Axioms 61-75

DN AXIOM 61: An organism is rejected by THETA to the degree that it fails in its goals.

.

DN AXIOM 62: Higher organisms can exist only in the degree that they are supported by the lower organisms.

.

DN AXIOM 63: The usefulness of an organism is determined by the alignment of its efforts toward survival.

.

DN AXIOM 64: The mind perceives and stores all data of the environment and aligns or fails to align these according to the time they were perceived.

DEFINITION: A conclusion is the THETA FACSIMILES of a group of combined data.
DEFINITION: A datum is a THETA FACSIMILE of physical action.

All sensations received in the mind are assimilated in a mental matrix and get converted to perceptions. Any sensation that cannot be assimilated gets embedded as a recording waiting to be assimilated. Such unassimilated recordings gather to itself later similar sensations and a confusion results due to a lack of differentiation in terms of time. This distorts the perception, which is taken as the input data for making conclusions

.

DN AXIOM 65: The process of thought is the perception of the present and the comparison of it to the perceptions and conclusions of the past in order to direct action in the immediate or distant future.

COROLLARY: The attempt of thought is to perceive realities of the past and present in order to predict or postulate realities of the future.

Ideally, perception should be seeing things as they are. This immediately leads to correct conclusions and right action in the immediate or distant future. The present sensations are converted into perceptions when they are assimilated with experience from the past. If the past experience contains unassimilated sensations similar to those in the present, then those present sensations do not get assimilated. This distorts the perception in the present. As a result, any conclusions based on such perception become aberrated. Thus, the function of thought is to keep the experience and incoming sensation well assimilated. The process of thought is to assimilate the sensation fully, such that, all things are perceived as they are.

.

DN AXIOM 66: The process by which life effects its conquest of the material universe consists in the conversion of the potential effort of matter and energy in space and through time to effect with it the conversion of further matter and energy in space and through time.

.

DN AXIOM 67: THETA contains its own THETA UNIVERSE effort which translates into MEST effort.

.

DN AXIOM 68: The single arbitrary in any organism is time.

.

DN AXIOM 69: Physical universe perceptions and efforts are received by an organism as force waves, convert by facsimile into THETA and are thus stored.

DEFINITION: Randomity is the misalignment through the internal or external efforts by other forms of life or the material universe of the efforts of an organism, and is imposed on the physical organism by counter-efforts in the environment.

The universe impinges on the organism as sensations. These sensations get assimilated into the mental matrix and get stored as that matrix structure. The matrix structure then generates the perceptions of the present and the past. Any lack of assimilation distorts this perception. This distortion is also visible as pain and discomfort. Effort needed to overcome this pain and discomfort provides a measure of the lack of assimilation, or randomity.

.

DN AXIOM 70: Any cycle of any life organism is from static to motion to static.

.

DN AXIOM 71: The cycle of randomity is from static, through optimum, through randomity sufficiently repetitious or similar to constitute another static.

.

DN AXIOM 72: There are two subdivisions to randomity: data randomity and force randomity.

.

DN AXIOM 73: The three degrees of randomity consist of minus randomity, optimum randomity and plus randomity.

DEFINITION: Randomity is a component factor and necessary part of motion, if motion is to continue.

.

DN AXIOM 74: Optimum randomity is necessary to learning.

.

DN AXIOM 75: The important factors in any area of randomity are effort and counter-effort. (Note: As distinguished from near perceptions of effort.)

The Dynamics (old)

Previous: A Basic Model of Universe

Reference: The Quest for Certainty

We may start from the concept that there is always something to know; that there is no absolute knowledge. This ultimate concept may be looked upon as “Supreme Being” or Brahma. A version of it is considered to be the Eighth Dynamic by Hubbard of Scientology.

The “static” is the orientation point from which to view this vast universe. This reference point is theoretical but very essential. All properties of the universe must converge back to this point for orientation. Hubbard has a version of it as the Seventh Dynamic.

The universe is not only material but also spiritual. The material aspects are MEST (matter, energy, space and time), and the spiritual aspects are ICAD (identity, consciousness, awareness and desire). The material and spiritual aspects of the universe cannot be separated. Hubbard has a version of it as the Sixth Dynamic.

This universe evolves from the disturbance of the fabric of Space-awareness by the presence of Time-Desire. As a result, first there is Energy-consciousness, which then condenses into Matter-identity. Then there is progressive evolution of Matter-identity into minerals, plant life, and animal life. This evolution has now culminated in sentient humans. Hubbard refers to a version of the above as Fifth Dynamic.

When we focus on the highest form of evolution of this universe, we have Mankind as Fourth Dynamic. We can then look at the division of Mankind into Groups as the Third Dynamic. We may highlight the organization of the procreation activity among humans as the Second Dynamic. Finally, we may regard the individual person and his individuality as the First Dynamic.

Here we have a philosophy of evolution that is logically anchored in the Eighth Dynamic. The proper sequence of Dynamics occurs from Eighth to First. However, Hubbard reverses this sequence by making individuality as the center piece of his philosophy of Scientology. Thus, Hubbard’s philosophy of Scientology is backwards.

When we consider the Eighth Dynamic as the anchor, we notice that there is no limit to knowledge. Evolution has been bringing order to the surrounding disorder by trial and error. Now that evolution has culminated in sentient humans, it is obvious that the  trial and error mode is being replaced by a sentient approach for future evolution.

Science has done a great job in the investigation of the physical aspects of this universe. It has come up with many physical laws. However, science has lagged behind in the investigation of the metaphysical aspects of this universe. We must now come up with metaphysical laws that are as precise as the physical laws in order to evolve further.

Man as the most evolved organism must discover, understand and follow the basic laws of the universe to evolve further.

Axioms 46-60

DN AXIOM 46: Colonial aggregations of viruses and cells can be imbued with more THETA than they inherently contained.

Life energy joins any group, whether a group of organisms or group of cells composing an organism. Here we have personal entity, individuation, etc.

The inherent motion of substance evolves from simple, mechanical motion within minerals to complex, self-animated motion within viruses and cells. This complex, self-animated motion imparts separate and individual life to the organisms.

.

DN AXIOM 47: Effort can be accomplished by LAMBDA only through the coordination of its parts toward goals.

.

DN AXIOM 48: An organism is equipped to be governed and controlled by a mind.

.

DN AXIOM 49: The purpose of the mind is to pose and resolve problems relating to survival and to direct the effort of the organism according to these solutions.

.

DN AXIOM 50: All problems are posed and resolved through estimations of effort.

.

DN AXIOM 51: The mind can confuse position in space with position in time. (Counter-efforts producing action phrases.)

.

DN AXIOM 52: An organism proceeding toward survival is directed by the mind of that organism in the accomplishment of survival effort.

.

DN AXIOM 53: An organism proceeding toward succumb is directed by the mind of that organism in the accomplishment of death.

.

DN AXIOM 54: Survival of an organism is accomplished by the overcoming of efforts opposing its survival.

(Note: Corollary for other dynamics.)

.

DN AXIOM 55: Survival effort for an organism includes the dynamic thrust by that organism for the survival of itself, its procreation, its group, its subspecies, its species, all life organisms, material universe, the life static and, possibly, a Supreme Being.

(Note: List of dynamics.)

.

DN AXIOM 56: The cycle of an organism, a group of organisms or a species is inception, growth, re-creation, decay and death.

.

DN AXIOM 57: The effort of an organism is directed toward the control of the environment for all the dynamics.

.

DN AXIOM 58: Control of an environment is accomplished by the support of pro-survival factors along any dynamic.

.

DN AXIOM 59: Any type of higher organism is accomplished by the evolution of viruses and cells into forms capable of better efforts to control or live in an environment.

.

DN AXIOM 60: The usefulness of an organism is determined by its ability to control the environment or to support organisms which control the environment.

The Fundamental Error in Dianetics

americanscientist01

The following is a quote from introduction to The Dianetic Axioms:

“L. Ron Hubbard found that man is obeying very, very definite laws and rules which could be set forward in axioms. The very first and most fundamental of these is: The dynamic principle of existence is survive. That is the basic axiom of Dianetics.”

The scientific observations show that the dynamic principle of this universe could be considered as “change”, because everything in this universe is in motion (always changing). It is theorized that motion may come to rest at the temperature of absolute zero. But the universe is not at a temperature of absolute zero. As far as, science is concerned, everything in this universe is continually changing at all levels.

However, the natural tendency of motion seems to attain some kind of equilibrium. It is like bodies at different temperatures, when brought in contact, tend towards a single equilibrium temperature. But the “equilibrium” in case of the universe seems to be returning to continuity, harmony and consistency after being disturbed. This is explained in greater details in the essay, Self-Determinism and Laws of the Universe.

So, from a broad scientific viewpoint,  the dynamic principle of this universe seems to be “change toward greater continuity, harmony and consistency after being disturbed.”

The word “survive” is used broadly to mean “to remain or continue in existence or use”, as in the sentence, “Ancient farming methods still survive in the Middle East.” Or, in the sentence. “Few survived after the holocaust.” But to regard “survive” as a dynamic principle of existence, would mean “there is a state that continues as it is throughout all changes unconditionally”. This is not so in reality.

In Dianetics, the human soul or beingness is assumed to “survive” unconditionally. This is an idea borrowed from Christianity where human soul is thought to be immortal. That is a subjective consideration, and not a dynamic principle of existence. Thus, Hubbard is considering “survive” from a limited human-centric viewpoint and not from a universal viewpoint.

It would be an error to consider “survive” as a scientific principle applying to all existence as it is subjective and vague.

Scientifically, the dynamic principle of existence is CHANGE toward greater continuity, harmony and consistency as the universe evolves.

Applying this scientific principle to Dianetics may bring about some interesting understanding about the condition of Man.

Axioms 31-45

DN AXIOM 31: Wrongness is always miscalculation of effort.

.

DN AXIOM 32: THETA can exert itself directly or extensionally.

THETA can direct physical application of the organism to the environment or, through the mind, can first calculate the action or extend, as in language, ideas.

.

DN AXIOM 33: Conclusions are directed toward the inhibition, maintenance or accelerations of efforts.

.

DN AXIOM 34: The common denominator of all life organisms is motion.

.

DN AXIOM 35: Effort of an organism to survive or succumb is physical motion of a life organism at a given moment in time through space.

DEFINITION: Motion is any change in orientation in space.
DEFINITION: Force is random effort.
DEFINITION: Effort is directed force.

.

DN AXIOM 36: An organism’s effort can be to remain at rest or persist in a given motion.

Static state has position in time, but an organism which is remaining positionally in a static state, if alive, is still continuing a highly complex pattern of motion, such as the heartbeat, digestion, etc.

The efforts of organisms to survive or succumb are assisted, compelled or opposed by the efforts of other organisms, matter, energy, space and time.

DEFINITION: Attention is a motion which must remain at an optimum effort. Attention is aberrated by becoming unfixed and sweeping at random or becoming too fixed without sweeping.

Unknown threats to survival when sensed cause attention to sweep without fixing. Known threats to survival when sensed cause attention to fix.

PM AXIOM 36: An organism’s effort can be to remain at rest as in equilibrium, or persist in a given motion.

An attribute of higher level organisms is attention. Attention is a motion which must remain at an optimum effort. Attention is aberrated by sweeping at random or becoming too fixed.

.

DN AXIOM 37: The ultimate goal of LAMBDA is infinite survival.

.

DN AXIOM 38: Death is abandonment by THETA of a life organism or race or species where these can no longer serve THETA in its goals of infinite survival.

.

DN AXIOM 39: The reward of an organism engaging upon survival activity is pleasure.

.

DN AXIOM 40: The penalty of an organism failing to engage upon survival activity, or engaging in non-survival activity, is pain.

.

DN AXIOM 41: The cell and virus are the primary building blocks of life organisms.

.

.

DN AXIOM 44: The goal of viruses and cells is survival in space through time.

.

DN AXIOM 45: The total mission of higher organisms, viruses and cells is the same as that of the virus and cell.
