The Self
The Self is the capability that can potentially become aware of the whole universe. But self, as it actually exists, is identified with elements of the universe. The self is not aware of such identification. It is, therefore, limited in its awareness.
The self extends itself as a mind to establish awareness. The mind then extends itself as a body to execute its directives.

I have revised this definition.
As I said before in a pm – Self comes into existence with assuming a Beeing-ness.
Before that ‘you’ were able to act selflessly – in co-creation with others.
The moment you attached to something and didn’t want to let it go, you became defined as a Beeing-ness.
This we call individuation.
Persisting on this led to the way down to where we are now.

I have a different definition of Beingness.
Definition of BEINGNESS
Anything that is manifested is being; and, therefore, it has a beingness. That beingness can be simple or complex.
The beingness starts as a thought out of the blue. It has no reason preceding it. Such a thought is called a postulate.
That postulate may then evolve gradually acquiring increasingly sophisticated characteristics, much like a computer program. At some point, it acquires a body and a mind. The most sophisticated beingness is the human beingness.
A beingness as a complex postulate, or program, is always a continuous, consistent and harmonious whole. Any deviations from this wholeness shall appear as aberrations.
Thus, there is a gradient of beingness, which appears as this universe. This gradient of beingness has been described partly through physics and astronomy; and partly by the theory of evolution.
I have revised the definition of SELF again.
Basically, Self is unknowable. An “individual self” is the unknowable Self identifying with something substantial.

Identification = Assigning a symbol to the original concept and then giving additional meaning to that symbol.
