THETAN: This term designates the beingness of a person. This is what he believes himself to be. Whatever identity he assumes, he is that. He may become confused about who is his; but at any moment, he is capable of postulating who he is. To believe that he is made up of some core characteristic that is immortal at some level, is a fixation. It is a common aberration.
AUDITOR: Auditor is the person who, like a therapist, helps a preclear become clear in his mental state. But having an auditor always impacts one’s ability to think for oneself negatively. Fortunately, most processes in Scientology can be applied in a mantra-like fashion to oneself in a meditative or contemplative setting. Use of an auditor is recommended only when a person is a beginner in Scientology, or when he is incapable of applying Scientology processes to himself.
LOCATION: A location is a postulate of where something is. A thetan postulates itself to be located at the center of the skull where all perceptions converge. But a thetan can postulate itself to be anywhere inside or outside the body. The thetan can believe itself to be the body with its center of attention inside the skull. But this is a fixation and a common aberration. A thetan is not a thing that has location. A thetan postulates things that have locations.
SELF-DETERMINISM: Self-determinism is the thetan’s ability to postulate without becoming fixated. He can change his postulate as needed to conform to the principle of oneness. The thetan itself is a postulate. So the beingness called thetan itself can change as needed to conform to the principle of oneness. Thus, self-determinism may be defined as the ability to maintain the principle of oneness. Note: Oneness is the continuity, consistency and harmony of postulates. This principle is not explicitly acknowledged in Scientology.
ILLUSION: Illusion is an altered perception of what exists in reality.
REALITY: Reality is the that which conforms to the principle of oneness. It is the perception from which all inconsistencies have been resolved. This defines the reality of the universe. It is continuous consistent and harmonious.
DELUSION: Delusion is continuing belief in things that are not consistent with reality.
CERTAINTY: A person’s fixations may be looked upon as certainties because they are providing him stability by keeping his confusion at bay. But if a slight disturbance throws that person into confusion then his certainties are of the nature of fixations. True certainties are part of one’s awareness and sense of confidence.
KNOWINGNESS: Knowingness is what gives a person confidence. He feels one with the reality of the universe.
ABERRATION: Aberration manifests when there is violation of oneness. It is based on anomalies, such as, discontinuity (missing data), inconsistency (contradictory data), or disharmony (arbitrary data).
THETA PERCEPTION: The reality is sensed through the sense organs. These sensations, when assimilated, result in perceptions. The perception consists of size, odor, tactile, sound, color, etc. Theta perception is the complete assimilation of sensations, such that, there are no alterations or distortions. The assimilation of sensations requires their de-condensation. On this depends the accuracy of the perception of the universe out there. On the accuracy of perception depends the ability to reason, and to resolve problems.
MEST PERCEPTION: It is actually a raw unassimilated sensation. It is the “condensed” event that was sensed. It is like a recording because it is not yet de-condensed and assimilated. Its details, therefore, cannot be perceived. The processing is all about de-condensing and assimilating these “recordings.”
ORIENTATION: Orientation is knowingness of locations relative to each other on some reference scale or grid.
RIDGES: Ridges are relatively fixed patterns that appear in a flow. They continue to be there in a potential form even after the flow has stopped. Fixed ideas, prejudices, bias, and other fixations are all ridges.
FACSIMILES: Facsimiles are raw sensations that have remained unassimilated because of their complexity. They are still in the same form in which they were first received. They are yet to be assimilated and converted into perceptions.
END OF TERMINAL: This is the terminal at the other end of a communication line from you. It could be your car, or a loved one, that you are in constant communication with. When the car is stolen, or the loved one dies, the end terminal is no longer there. Since the person can no longer flow communication to that terminal, the flow reverts back to him. In other words, he introverts. The feeling of loss and grief is, therefore, an introversion. In creative processing, the end terminals can be mocked up and the flow resumed. This handles many difficulties.
ASTRAL BODIES: This is an explanation of phenomena, such as, out-of-body experience and life after death. Scientology explains these same phenomena differently.
ELECTRONICS: Electronics is a branch of physics and engineering that focuses on the behavior, flow, and control of electrons and other electrically charged particles. In Scientology, the mental phenomena is modeled after the phenomena observed in electronics.
TERMINALS: A terminal is the point of current entry to, or point of current departure from, any conducting component in an electric circuit. By manipulating the resistance of conducting components the flow of current through the circuit can be controlled. In Scientology, the ridges and facsimiles are looked upon as conducting components that control the flow of thought. In short, a person’s fixations get activated by the person’s environment and control the flow of his thoughts.
THE HUMAN SOUL: The beingness of a person.
MYSTICISM: Mysticism is popularly known as becoming one with God or the Absolute. Scientifically, it would be realizing the oneness (continuity, consistency and harmony) of reality.
FREEDOM: Freedom lies in recognizing the principle of oneness as the overall constraint.
SLAVERY: Slavery lies in the fixation of awareness.
THE HUMAN BODY: The human body provides an overview of human beingness. Underlying human body are postulates, genetic programming, ridges, bones and muscles.
THE HUMAN MIND: The human mind is the maturing of a long series of genetic programming, where it can turn around and modify itself.
STIMULUS-RESPONSE: This is the push-button aspect of the genetic programming, that still influences the human mind.
THE REACTIVE MIND: The reactive mind refers strictly to the stimulus-response aspect of the human mind. It highlights the fixations in the operation of the human mind.
THE SOMATIC MIND: This is the aspect of the genetic programming that applies to the body. It is also natural like the upper end programming of the human mind.
SCIENTOLOGY: The science of knowing how to know. It is continuing on this path through subject clearing.
KNOWING HOW TO KNOW: It is being free of fixations and continuing to recognize and resolve anomalies.
THETA CLEAR: A being who knows that the beingness is not immortal—that it can change—even disappear and be recreated again.
CLEARED THETA CLEAR: Operates purely on postulates. There is no attention on beingness at all.
A THETAN EXTERIOR: A person who is neither fixated on his body, nor on his self.
