The Route to Rapid Results

Chapter 3 maps out the optimum route that will allow the most rapid results on most cases.

It is important to start with a person in auditing by addressing his present life. One may audit present life incidents of infant and childhood illness and the incidents of degradation which precede these. One may also audit operations, accidents, illnesses, etc., only if they come up. It doesn’t take long to to clean up the present life in the normal case. Exceptions occur only when there are psychoses, and genetic level diseases, such as, cancer. In that case, one follows the route of prenatals, which addresses DNA programming.

The anomalies in the present life take priority, but the heavy incidents in the present lifetime have basics that stretch far back into the past. Better and faster results come from addressing those basics. When auditing a theta being, one is auditing sentient experience, such as, that of death and birth. Here one is directly addressing the misconceptions of the theta being.  This is much more productive.

Prenatal and birth experience may be audited only when they present themselves.

.

DEFINITIONS

BETWEEN-LIVE
According to Hubbard, these are implants that are electronically embedded in a person’s psyche after his death but before his next birth. Such implant is intended to wipe out his memory and identity. However, this seems to point to the anomaly of a person’s confusion about his beingness. Please see The Definition of BEINGNESS, etc.

TECHNIQUE 80
Hubbard calls Technique 80 the “to be or not to be” technique which balances out the motivator, the overt act and the ded. It’s the anatomy of maybe. It becomes an entire subject of how to take apart maybe. How to get an indecision, how to get an involved grouped series of incidents apart. Any method which does this falls under the category of Technique 80.

GLOSSARY

For details on the following concepts, please consult Chapter 16.

RELATIVITY
The velocity of a planet made of rock (v) is so small compared to the velocity of ephemeral light (c) that c appears not to vary at all even when compared with the largest variations in v. This fact underlies the theory of relativity. The final clarification by Einstein was that light is a physical wave and not a wave in some physical medium other than light. That was a great confusion that had dominated physics for over a century.

OBSERVER
The “observer” of Einstein may best be compared to a viewpoint that stands beyond the whole scale of motion. That is a scientific notion that lies at the interface of physics and metaphysics. Please see The Static Viewpoint.

ETHER
If there is anything like “ether” as the “medium of light,” then it would be a medium that underlies all physical substance and not just light. In other words, ether does not represent a definite inertial reference frame that lies somewhere on the scale of motion. In fact, ether represents the whole scale of motion. The ether has been incorporated in the concept of “observer” in Einstein’s theory of relativity. It is free to attach itself to any particle—either matter or light.

ETHER VS. FIELD
These two concepts are very different. Ether was postulated as the medium in which a wave of light was formed according to the wave theory. On the other hand, Field is conceived as the energy substance of light itself according to the quantum theory.

MICHELSON’S EXPERIMENT
Michelson and Morley tried to find changes in the velocity of light traveling along perpendicular paths at different times of the year and found no differences. They concluded that the velocity of light was always c for an observer on earth, no matter in which direction the observer was moving, or, in other words, all observers measure the same speed of light, c.

EINSTEIN’S POSTULATES
Einstein made two postulates: first, that the laws of nature were identical for all inertial observers, as with Newton’s laws of mechanics; second, that there was no special medium, or “ether”, and that light waves traveled with the same speed in any direction in empty space as measured by all inertial observers. These included observers moving relative to each other while measuring the same light wave!

Here the observers are attached to Earth. So, we are measuring the speed of light relative to the speed of Earth. There is no way of knowing the speed of Earth in space. All we have is the speed of Earth relative to the Sun, which is something very different. It appears that the speed of “Earth in space” is infinitesimal compared to the speed of “light in space.” That is why Einstein’s postulates work.

SIMULTANEITY
Einstein argued that if all inertial observers measure the same light beam as traveling with velocity c, irrespective of their motion relative to each other, the simultaneity assumption does not prove out to be true. But this is only true because the speed of light is finite. An unattached observer, who is looking at the whole scale of motion simultaneously, will be able to see the differences in speeds, and explain simultaneity accordingly depending on distances. In other words, our perception is affected by the finite speed of light, but not intuition.

TIME DILATION
in Einstein’s theory, moving clocks run at a slower rate than stationary clocks, even if the clocks are identical. The time interval between successive “ticks” on the clock (its period) will be longer when observed by an observer, A, that sees the clock moving, than by an observer, B, at rest with respect to the clock. Thus, observer A will say that the moving clock runs slow compared with an identical clock that is not moving. In this case, V is much smaller than c.

Since c = wavelength/period, as wavelength increases the period shall increase too. This is time dilation. Therefore, increased speed is equivalent to increased wavelength of “energy substance in space.” When that substance is mass, we may say that increased speed “softens” the mass. This is like proton mass softening into electron mass in an atom.

Here the increased speed is not an increase in “relative speed.” It is an increase of speed “in space.” In other words, when we are looking at wavelengths, we are looking from the framework of spacetime, and not in some inertial frame.

The confusion comes from considering the time dilation in an inertial framework. No such confusion arises when one thinks in the spacetime framework.

LENGTH CONTRACTION
In Einstein’s theory length contracts in the direction of motion. Therefore, two observers approaching each other will each see lengths contract in the other’s framework. This is confusing because here one is dealing with relative velocities. Actual length contraction will depend on velocity in the spacetime framework and not due to relative speeds in the inertial framework.

In the spacetime framework length contraction appears as the condensation of energy substance, meaning the reduction in the wavelength. This condensation is accompanied by reduction in velocity in the spacetime framework.

LORENTZ TRANSFORMATION
The equations that relate space-time points in one inertial system to the other are called transformation equations. For Newtonian physics those transformation equations are called Galilean, while for Einstein’s relativity theory they must be different and are called Lorentz transformations. The Lorentz transformation equations are:

The inertial systems are limited to material domain only, which forms an extremely small window on the whole electromagnetic spectrum at the extreme upper end of it. In this window the velocity is an extremely small fraction of the speed of light. In other words, the Lorentz Transformations apply only when v << c, and not otherwise.

MASS
Non-relativistic mass, or the “rest mass” is inherent to the particle. This mass “softens up” (its wavelength increases) as the velocity of the particle increases in the Spacetime Framework. The rest mass of an electron is not as hard as the rest mass of a proton. It is “softened mass.”

RELATIVISTIC MASS
The “relativistic mass” is a representation of total energy of a particle. It includes the large kinetic energy of the particle. It also includes the potential, nuclear energy, etc., but they are relatively small. In measuring the very large kinetic energy, confusion arises when velocity measured in the inertial framework is more than the velocity of light. The actual velocities of particles are never greater than the velocity of light when measured in the spacetime framework. The relativistic mass (m) is related to actual mass (m0) as follows: m = γm0.

ENERGY
Energy has two different definitions:
(a) Energy as motion of mass = kinetic energy
(b) Energy as “softened mass” = the EM spectrum

TOTAL ENERGY
The total energy of a particle is essentially given by its relativistic mass. This is known as Einstein’s famous equation for the equivalence of mass and energy, E = mc2. All energy, including kinetic energy, is equivalent to mass. Therefore, whenever the energy of a particle is increased, its mass increases.

SPACETIME
Einstein gives us a mathematical definition of spacetime. However, we may form a tangible definition of spacetime as follows: Spacetime is not nothing. Space implies extents and time implies duration. Therefore, spacetime implies “something” with extents and duration. We call that “something” to be the fundamental substance that produces the whole electromagnetic spectrum as it condenses. At the upper end of this spectrum, we have matter.

SPACETIME FRAMEWORK
Spacetime framework views the whole scale of motion from a detached viewpoint, whereas the inertial framework looks at motion from the upper end of the electromagnetic spectrum, which represents the viewpoint of matter.

SIZE OF A LIGHT PARTICLE
The size of a light particle is roughly given by its wavelength. The size of a material particle may be measured by its de Broglie wavelength. The size of a light particle is very, very large compared to the size of a material particle. A light particle is at least c times bigger than the material particle.

The Ultimate Bottom

In Scientology, Hubbard drilled all the way down to the concept of Cause as in

FACTOR # 1. Before the beginning was a Cause and the entire purpose of the Cause was the creation of effect.

This is what Western religions have always believed in. The Cause is just a “scientific” makeover for God.

.

KHTK (Knowing How to Know) drills all the way down to the concept of Unknowable as in

KHTK Factor # 1: Before the beginning was the Unknowable and the entire purpose of the Unknowable was to know itself.

This is what Eastern religions have always believed in. The Unknowable is just a “scientific” makeover for Brahman, Shiva or “neti, neti.”

.

The Engram

We are now looking at the Scientology concept of “Engram” from a deeper basis provided by Buddhism, Vedas or the Eastern thought, but in the modern scientific manner pioneered by Scientology.

The definition of engram has changed over time. On the surface, it appears to be a recording of a multi-layered drama that leads to both physical and mental aberrations. But underlying this confusing drama there are misconceptions. At the root of these misconceptions are anomalies that go deep into postulates. The time track is made of the multiple layers within the engram. The time track does not exist outside the scope of the engram. To fully handle an engram, one has to go deep into postulates and handle the anomalies there. These anomalies go deeper than just the conflicting goals, where Scientology stops. Origin of Engram: “Something written within.”

These “engrams” are the unassimilated impressions in the mind described in Hinduism as “samskara,” or described in Buddhism as “sankhara.”

.

Samskara

To look at “samskara” in detail, please refer to Patanjali Yoga Sutras of Hinduism. Especially read the four-part summary.

The Level of OT I

Reference: Scientology OT Levels

According to Postulate Mechanics, one handles misjudgments on the Grades. By the time one goes Clear, most of the misjudgments are cleared. The job now remains of handling one’s misconceptions. This is done on OT levels.

.

OT I

The OT Level I is about the direct understanding of one’s beingness. The OT I drills have to do with

  1. Counting bodies
  2. Noticing the sex (male or female) of those bodies.
  3. Noticing the size (small or large) of those bodies.
  4. Noticing the attribute in terms of there being an individual, or a crowd.
  5. Differentiating oneself from others.
  6. Noticing the degree to which one can have (tolerate) others around oneself.
  7. Noticing the body part in others that one doesn’t like having in one’s body.
  8. Spotting things in others that are not wrong with them.
  9. Noticing people walking toward you or walking away from you.
  10. Noticing how people stick to the ground (get the sense of gravity).
  11. Spotting important things about people (these would be one’s own considerations).
  12. Noticing places where there are no people.
  13. Noticing places where there are people.

OT I focuses on perceiving the attributes of others in different ways  and then looking at oneself with respect to those attributes.

This drill makes a person look at others and oneself more objectively. This may free up the fixed considerations about oneself. Nothing more mysterious need to be read into OT I. Here are OT I instructions in Hubbard’s handwriting that have been in the public domain for some time.

LRH Instructions on OT I

A later version of OT I emphasized looking at upsets, problems etc., from the viewpoint of others. Therefore, on OT I, though not so specified, there is definitely an attempt to broaden the viewpoint of the person, so he is less fixated on himself. Here are the new OT I instructions.

New OT I Instructions

In Subject Clearing approach you do the following,

  1. Put down all the terminals that come to your mind on a list.
  2. Rearrange those terminal on the list in the order they are relevant to you.
    • The most relevant terminal should appear at the top of the list.
  3. Apply subsequent instructions to the most relevant terminal.
  4. Handle the upsets that terminal had with you.
    • You look from the viewpoint of that terminal
    • Recognize the nature of that upset objectively.
    • Was that a break in
      • Affinity
      • Reality
      • Communication, or
      • Understanding
    • Did that break had to do with
      • Curiosity
      • Denial
      • Enforcement
      • Inhibition
      • Absence
      • Refusal
    • The moment you recognize the nature of the upset it should disappear.
    • Handle all possible upsets that terminal had with you.
  5. Next handle the problems that terminal had with you.
    • You look from the viewpoint of that terminal
    • Contemplate on that problem and recognize opposing postulates.
    • Make sure you have no mystery left about any aspects of the problem.
    • Handle all possible problems that terminal had with you.
  6. Next handle things that terminal withheld from you.
    • You look from the viewpoint of that terminal.
    • A withhold is a lack of admission to overt actions committed out of misjudgment.
    • Get details of the withhold in terms of What, When, All, and Who should have known about it.
    • Handle all possible withholds that terminal had regarding you.
  7. Go back to step 3, and handle the next terminal with steps 4 to 6.
  8. You end off when there is a big relief.

.

Misconceptions about Beingness

The most fundamental misconception is expressed through the question, “Who am I?” The beingness as an individual is basically a matrix of matter, radiation and thought elements. In Scientology terminology, we may express it as,

INDIVIDUAL = THETA + GENETIC ENTITY + THETAN

The individual becomes aberrated (flawed) to the degree its matrix acquires identifications or fixations. The idea that the thetan is “immortal” or “eternal” is a misconception that leads to fixation. The thetan is inherently flexible and can change itself completely.

.

Misconceptions about OT I

On OT Levels, one is handling deep misconceptions (blind spots). Hubbard gives the impression that one is walking on egg shells when doing the OT Levels. That may be the case when one is using an E-meter that works well with heavy engrams, but not so well with subtle misconceptions. OT levels are safe to run when you apply the 12 Aspects of Mindfulness as in the subject clearing approach.

Hubbard says on OT I: “It is not the intention of this section to exteriorize anyone but if it happens don’t worry about or fool around with the fact.”

Exteriorization is misconceived in Scientology as the “thetan” becoming detached from the “body.” It gives the impression that the matrix of the individual is coming apart. In reality, all that is happening is that the fixation on the body is becoming undone. This is natural.

The Level of OT VIII

Executive Summary 2025

.

Knowledge & Hubbard

The very concept of Scientology is “Knowing How to Know”. From OT TR0 to the level of OT VIII, meditation and contemplation is systemized as the process of auditing for the purpose of knowing. The OT Levels are supposed to directly handle the misconceptions on the subjects of BEINGNESS and KNOWLEDGE.

Hubbard postulates an eternal thetan as the source of life; but according to the Vedic Hymn of Creation there is no identifiable source of life. The ultimate source of life is Unknowable. Please see:

The Creation Hymn of Rig Veda

Buddhism presents the doctrine of no soul. Please see:

The Doctrine of No-Soul: Anatta

Hubbard does refer to the Hymn of Creation from Vedas, and also to Buddhism, but he differs from them on the very fundamentals of beingness and the source of life. He admits that in the following writing.

Identity versus Individuality

.

Comment on Hubbard

Some people tend to dismiss Hubbard completely; but I don’t. In spite of the holes that exist in his research, Hubbard accomplished a lot. He provided a framework that is quite solid, but he committed two fundamental errors.

  1. The source of the universe are postulates. Hubbard assumed the source of these postulates to be the agreement among eternal thetans. But he didn’t realize that “eternal thetan” is also a postulate. So, the true source of postulates is unknowable as correctly stated in The Creation Hymn of Rig Veda.
  2. Hubbard summarized the subject of logic brilliantly in The logic of Data Series; but he omitted to state the IDEAL SCENE OF LOGIC. This ideal scene is ONENESS as has been hinted since ancient times, and which has been anthropomorphized into the idea of “One God” or “Supreme being” or “Great All” in religions.

This ideal scene of ONENESS appears in the Scientific Method as CONSISTENCY. At atomic level, this consistency appears as CONTINUITY. At cosmic level, the same consistency takes the form of HARMONY. So, we have

ONENESS = CONTINUITY, CONSISTENCY and HARMONY

Once we account for these two fundamental errors in Hubbard’s work we can see that Hubbard produced the biggest advance in the subject of mind since Freud’s psychoanalysis.

In my view, Hubbard’s work cannot be dismissed lightly. His two great contributions are:

  1. DIRECTED MEDITATION that basically makes one look at anomalies more closely. This is the best way to describe the process of auditing.
  2. THE GRADE CHART that make one look at broad anomalies first and then increasingly specific anomalies on a gradient.

These contributions are weakened by the two fundamental errors described above. However, these two errors are taken care of in Postulate Mechanics, one may now proceed with this understanding on OT VIII.

.

The OT VIII

The true tech of OT VIII is The logic of Data Series as modified by the concept of Oneness. The violations of oneness appear as anomalies. The anomalies are defined as discontinuity (missing data), inconsistency (contradictory data), and disharmony (arbitrary data).

A person on OT VIII is well on his way to resolve anomalies among the fundamentals of the various systems of knowledge, such as, the different religions, philosophies and sciences. A person evolves to higher states by resolving anomalies.

On OT VIII one continues to resolve anomalies for oneself on the subjects of Beingness and Knowledge.

.

Subject Clearing

The vehicle for OT VIII is Subject Clearing, which is an extension of the Study Tech and Data Series. Subject Clearing is the fastest approach to understand a subject. It rapidly handles the fixed ideas and false data weaved throughout all systems of knowledge including Scientology. It is truly knowing how to know. Please see the introduction here.

The Book of Subject Clearing

.

Grassroots Scientology

The level of OT VIII comes at the tail end of Scientology Grade Chart, but it is like coming a full circle. One can now start studying Scientology along with other subjects of comparable magnitude, such as, Physics, Hinduism and Buddhism using the subject clearing approach. This will help clear up the fixed ideas present in the subject of Scientology itself.

One can then go through the Grade Chart of Scientology using the subject clearing approach. Here one uses mindfulness in place of a mechanical device (E-meter). We may refer to it as Grassroots Scientology. It can be applied rapidly to oneself by a Scientologist, or a person new to Scientology alike, with great benefits. Please see,

Grassroots Scientology
