Cognitive Therapy with Subject Clearing

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

Cognitive Therapy is the brainchild of Aaron T. Beck. He lived to be 100 years. So, he must be doing something right. In the video above, he is being interviewed at the age of 90 by his daughter.

In short, Cognitive Therapy may be defined as follows:

COGNITIVE THERAPY
Cognitive Therapy handles anomalies in the thought structure of a person’s viewpoint that he is not quite aware of. These anomalies distorts the person’s view. He thinks narrowly in black and white, overgeneralizes, and makes negative representation of the self. The therapist gives him reassurance and positive reinforcement. He helps the person explore his behavior back to the thought structure underlying his viewpoint.

The key cognitive therapy question is, “What was going through your mind just then?” Other questions are: Is there overgeneralization? Is there some alternative explanation? Is there a logic to that? When the person looks at the automatic thoughts arising from his thought structure, he starts to get better.

SUBJECT CLEARING
With Subject Clearing, you are clearing the key concepts of a subject, coming forward from the earliest concept. You do this using the definitions provided. You then handle the anomalies as they come up in the form of disagreements. The disagreements allow one to look closely at certain concepts, and may help discover arbitraries in one’s thinking.

The definitions provided could also need some improvement, but the disagreement provides an opportunity to look for arbitraries in one’s thinking. This gradually sweeps away such arbitraries.

.

Here is a little exercise to get some idea of Cognitive Therapy with Subject Clearing. Look up the following definition of UNIVERSE; and ask yourself,

“What crosses my mind as I look up this definition?”

.

UNIVERSE
The universe is not just physical; it is also metaphysical, real, imaginary, postulated or speculated. Nothing is excluded from the universe. The root meaning of the word UNIVERSE is “entire, all, literally, turned into one,” which means that the universe is continuous, consistent and harmonious as per the Principle of Oneness. The universe is knowable as opposed to the Unknowable. This means that the universe is made up of substance.

.

You may be surprised to find what crosses your mind. It could be a thought such as, “This is too deep for me,” or, “I have never understood this kind of stuff.”

These kind of thoughts are negative representation of the self. Anyway, these are just some examples. Go ahead and discover your own internal reaction.

Write down your questions or disagreements that you would like to resolve. See if you can resolve those questions using the Internet. Otherwise, contact me.

Subject Clearing Confront (old)

Please see The Book of Subject Clearing

Processing is the application of a procedure to bring about an improvement in a person’s condition. In Subject Clearing, the processes have been obtained from the study of Vedic Hinduism, Buddhism, Psychoanalysis and Scientology.

In Subject Clearing, you can always go back to a previously applied process and run it again.

.

Process

To confront means, “to face without flinching or avoiding.” Before you can confront another person, or others, you must be able to first confront yourself. This is what it means to “be there.” In this process you learn to be there and confront on a gradient. Please study carefully and understand the following document.

Be There and Confront

Here are a couple of exercise from Scientology, called TR0, that are very effective when you do them with another person. It does not have to be the same person every time.

TR0 with Mindfulness

If you do not have another person to work with then do the following.

Mindfulness Meditation

.

Notes

The TR0 exercise allows the mental matrix to better assimilate itself. In doing so it may resolve some anomalies at the subconscious level. It does resolve other anomalies by bringing them up to a conscious level.

The TR0 exercise, when applied with the universal context of the Principle of Oneness in mind, helps assimilate the mental matrix at a fundamental level.

.

The Principle of Oneness

Oneness does not imply sameness. Oneness means that all that is known is continuous, consistent and harmonious. This Principle of Oneness underlies the very concept of the universe. It also underlies the Scientific method. This principle gives us the ideal scene for logic, because its violation gives us anomalies.

Case Handling

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

Trouble with Scientology was that it was always in a rush to produce an effect. Its premise was that you have to control the mind of the other person before you can create some effect on him. All Scientology processes try to control the person in one way or another.

Subject clearing, on the other hand, is not based on “Cause-Effect”. Instead it is based on “Knowing the Unknowable.” It is easy going and without any stress. You just flow with natural laws.

.

Nuances

I am certainly not thinking in terms of black and white. Of course, there are all different shades in between. I have benefitted from Scientology, and I am spending so much time on it because there is a lot for me to learn from it. But I find the following fundamental difference in the orientation of the two subjects.

Scientology:
Factor # 1. Before the beginning was a Cause and the entire purpose of the Cause was the creation of effect.

Subject Clearing:
KHTK Factor # 1: Before the beginning was the Unknowable and the entire purpose of the Unknowable was to know itself.

This is also the fundamental difference between Western and Eastern philosophy in terms of its orientation. This filters down to the two cultures being different. There is no denying that there is a lot of overlap and diffusion between the two cultures now. But when I look at the orientation at the deepest level, this is what I see. Both orientations have value. Neither is superior to the other. Maybe a complete diffusion between the two orientations will be optimum.

.

Difference in Orientations

The difference in the two orientations shows up in the fact that Scientology is very result oriented. A Scientology auditor is working hard towards producing a certain result. This is not so in Subject Clearing, where the focus is on learning something new by resolving anomalies. It is very organic in terms of moving from one process to another.

Actually, that is the natural instinct of the person to learn something new by resolving anomalies. He just has gotten confused and deviated from that natural path. You have to nudge and encourage the person back on that path, and he would oblige you. This is not the same thing as controlling the person.

If the person is running away with the session in some uncontrolled fashion, then obviously his discipline is out, and he is not spotting anomalies and resolving them. So, you remind him of the discipline and encourage him to practice it, before continuing with the process. Instead of controlling the person, you teach him to control himself.

.

Difference in the Bases

Hubbard’s auditing is based on the same premise as psychoanalysis that a person often resists looking at what he doesn’t know about himself. But it hasn’t thought all the way through why a person resists.

The obvious answer is that a person resists only when the gradient of looking is out. He is resisting because he is not looking at the anomaly he wants to resolve. If you can only help him locate the right confusion and the right anomaly he would cooperate with you. This is what I learned from the following experience, and this is what led to the basis of Subject Clearing. See The Future of Education.

.

The Logic of the Gradient

Whether a person changes or not is not in your hands. The changes are brought about by the person himself or herself. It all comes down to how you look at the case of the person. It is best not to evaluate his case but to arrange the processes in a logical sequence, such that they start by addressing the lowest point of a case, then the next higher point, and so on. You will soon find the right gradient of the process to apply.

The person may tell you the anomaly he is looking at, But a close look at that anomaly should reveal other anomalies that he is struggling with. You note down all those anomalies and list them in a logical sequence and then find the process appropriate for addressing the first anomaly in that sequence. This reduces to an algorithm that you may repeat until you find the right anomaly and the right process.

A Subject Clearing session may appear like a friendly chat, but you very soon become aware if you are in the right area or not, or if you are running the right process or not. There is no use in pushing the incorrect process hoping that it will bite if you push it a bit more. The session will run smoothly if you are on the right gradient of case difficulty with the person.

.

The Job as an Analyst

Of course, as an analyst you may lose patients because of mistakes you make. But be kind to yourself and learn from your mistakes and do better next time. Remember, your job is to assist and not to control, and you learn to assist better as you work with different cases of varying difficulties. The discipline of Subject Clearing applies to you as an analyst as well.

Einstein said, “You can never solve a problem with the same mindset that created it.” That is because that mindset with a problem is assuming something, which is keeping the problem in place. As an analyst you do not want to make the same assumption. In fact, you start out with making no assumptions at all.

So, you do not evaluate the case, but follow the logic of how various cases stack up. If you follow up on the anomalies with the person you are working, he or she will tell you how his or her case is stacked up.

In Subject Clearing you can be your own analyst.

Subject Clearing Process 15 (Condition)

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

Processing is the application of a sequence of steps to bring about an improvement in a person’s condition. In Subject Clearing, the processes are obtained from the study of Hinduism, Buddhism and Scientology.

In Subject Clearing, you can always go back to an earlier process and run it again.

.

Process #15

The 15th process in Subject Clearing is to explore the concept of CONDITION.

“Condition” means an existing state that is right there and visible. The person looks at the condition more closely and also at the attitude he has about it. He looks at all the actions he has taken with respect to it. He experiences non-judgmentally the feelings, emotions and efforts that the mind brings up.

A person commonly unstacks intense feelings and emotions before finally gaining the complete understanding for his condition. The appearance of intense emotions is a sign that one is approaching the final stages of the process.

In this process a person contemplates on the following.

  1. Tell me an existing condition.
  2. Tell me how you handled it.

This process is discussed more fully here. Make sure you study and understand it: “CONDITIONS” – A Scientology Power Process

Contemplate per the above commands until you are fully satisfied with your understanding of EXISTENCE. If you come across an anomaly handle it with Subject Clearing Process 6 (Viewpoint).

Subject Clearing Process 14 (Existence)

In Subject Clearing, you can always go back to an earlier process and run it again.

.

Process 14

The 14th process in Subject Clearing is to explore the concept of EXISTENCE.

This process makes a person look at the reality, or the way things are (is-ness). He may or may not like that reality but he must acknowledge that it exists. He may look at the reality, which concerns him in his day-to-day operation; or he may look at the reality of others, society, all life, the whole universe, etc. The process does not limit him to any particular reality.

His reality may consist of just the physical objects, or it may include mental objets, such as, sensations, perceptions, assumptions, feelings, ideas, expectations, etc. The process tends to make the person aware of his postulates and considerations. He may look at the reality of the past, present or future.

In this process a person contemplates on the following.

  1. What is?
  2. What isn’t?

This process encourages a person to see things as they are. It is discussed more fully here. Make sure you study and understand it: “EXISTENCE” – A Scientology Power Process

Contemplate per the above commands until you are fully satisfied with your understanding of EXISTENCE. If you come across an anomaly handle it with Subject Clearing Process 6 (Viewpoint).
