Chapter 8

अर्जुनउवाच
किंतद्ब्रह्मकिमध्यात्मंकिंकर्मपुरुषोत्तम।
अधिभूतंचकिंप्रोक्तमधिदैवंकिमुच्यते।।8.1।।

8.1 “Arjuna asked: O Lord of Lords! What is that which men call the Supreme Spirit, what is man’s Spiritual Nature, and what is the Law? What is Matter and what is Divinity?

अधियज्ञःकथंकोऽत्रदेहेऽस्मिन्मधुसूदन।
प्रयाणकालेचकथंज्ञेयोऽसिनियतात्मभिः।।8.2।।

8.2 Who is it who rules the spirit sacrifice in many; and at the time of death how may those who have learned self-control come to the knowledge of Thee?

श्रीभगवानुवाच
अक्षरंब्रह्मपरमंस्वभावोऽध्यात्ममुच्यते।
भूतभावोद्भवकरोविसर्गःकर्मसंज्ञितः।।8.3।।

8.3 The Lord Shri Krishna replied: The Supreme Spirit is the Highest Imperishable Self, and Its Nature is spiritual consciousness. The worlds have been created and are supported by an emanation from the Spirit which is called the Law.

अधिभूतंक्षरोभावःपुरुषश्चाधिदैवतम्।
अधियज्ञोऽहमेवात्रदेहेदेहभृतांवर।।8.4।।

8.4 Matter consists of the forms that perish; Divinity is the Supreme Self; and He who inspires the spirit of sacrifice in man, O noblest of thy race, is I Myself, Who now stand in human form before thee.

अन्तकालेचमामेवस्मरन्मुक्त्वाकलेवरम्।
यःप्रयातिसमद्भावंयातिनास्त्यत्रसंशयः।।8.5।।

8.5 Whosoever at the time of death thinks only of Me, and thinking thus leaves the body and goes forth, assuredly he will know Me.

यंयंवापिस्मरन्भावंत्यजत्यन्तेकलेवरम्।
तंतमेवैतिकौन्तेयसदातद्भावभावितः।।8.6।।

8.6 On whatever sphere of being the mind of a man may be intent at the time of death, thither he will go.

तस्मात्सर्वेषुकालेषुमामनुस्मरयुध्यच।
मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्मामेवैष्यस्यसंशयम्।।8.7।।

8.7 Therefore meditate always on Me, and fight; if thy mind and thy reason be fixed on Me, to Me shalt thou surely come.

अभ्यासयोगयुक्तेनचेतसानान्यगामिना।
परमंपुरुषंदिव्यंयातिपार्थानुचिन्तयन्।।8.8।।

8.8 He whose mind does not wander, and who is engaged in constant meditation, attains the Supreme Spirit.

कविंपुराणमनुशासितारमणोरणीयांसमनुस्मरेद्यः।
सर्वस्यधातारमचिन्त्यरूपमादित्यवर्णंतमसःपरस्तात्।।8.9।।

8.9 Whoso meditates on the Omniscient, the Ancient, more minute than the atom, yet the Ruler and Upholder of all, Unimaginable, Brilliant like the Sun, Beyond the reach of darkness;

प्रयाणकालेमनसाऽचलेनभक्त्यायुक्तोयोगबलेनचैव।
भ्रुवोर्मध्येप्राणमावेश्यसम्यक्सतंपरंपुरुषमुपैतिदिव्यम्।।8.10।।

8.10 He who leaves the body with mind unmoved and filled with devotion, by the power of his meditation gathering between his eyebrows his whole vital energy, attains the Supreme.

यदक्षरंवेदविदोवदन्तिविशन्तियद्यतयोवीतरागाः।
यदिच्छन्तोब्रह्मचर्यंचरन्तितत्तेपदंसंग्रहेणप्रवक्ष्ये।।8.11।।

8.11 Now I will speak briefly of the imperishable goal, proclaimed by those versed in the scriptures, which the mystic attains when free from passion, and for which he is content to undergo the vow of continence.

सर्वद्वाराणिसंयम्यमनोहृदिनिरुध्यच।
मूर्ध्न्याधायात्मनःप्राणमास्थितोयोगधारणाम्।।8.12।।

8.12 Closing the gates of the body, drawing the forces of his mind into the heart and by the power of meditation concentrating his vital energy in the brain;

ओमित्येकाक्षरंब्रह्मव्याहरन्मामनुस्मरन्।
यःप्रयातित्यजन्देहंसयातिपरमांगतिम्।।8.13।।

8.13 Repeating Om, the Symbol of Eternity, holding Me always in remembrance, he who thus leaves his body and goes forth reaches the Spirit Supreme.

अनन्यचेताःसततंयोमांस्मरतिनित्यशः।
तस्याहंसुलभःपार्थनित्ययुक्तस्ययोगिनः।।8.14।।

8.14 To him who thinks constantly of Me, and of nothing else, to such an ever-faithful devotee, O Arjuna, am I ever accessible.

मामुपेत्यपुनर्जन्मदुःखालयमशाश्वतम्।
नाप्नुवन्तिमहात्मानःसंसिद्धिंपरमांगताः।।8.15।।

8.15 Coming thus unto Me, these great souls go no more to the misery and death of earthly life, for they have gained perfection.

आब्रह्मभुवनाल्लोकाःपुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन।
मामुपेत्यतुकौन्तेयपुनर्जन्मनविद्यते।।8.16।।

8.16 The worlds, with the whole realm of creation, come and go; but, O Arjuna, whoso comes to Me, for him there is nor rebirth.

सहस्रयुगपर्यन्तमहर्यद्ब्रह्मणोविदुः।
रात्रिंयुगसहस्रान्तांतेऽहोरात्रविदोजनाः।।8.17।।

8.17 Those who understand the cosmic day and cosmic night know that one day of creation is a thousand cycles, and that the night is of equal length.

अव्यक्ताद्व्यक्तयःसर्वाःप्रभवन्त्यहरागमे।
रात्र्यागमेप्रलीयन्तेतत्रैवाव्यक्तसंज्ञके।।8.18।।

8.18 At the dawning of that day all objects in manifestation stream forth from the Unmanifest, and when evening falls they are dissolved into It again.

भूतग्रामःसएवायंभूत्वाभूत्वाप्रलीयते।
रात्र्यागमेऽवशःपार्थप्रभवत्यहरागमे।।8.19।।

8.19 The same multitude of beings, which have lived on earth so often, all are dissolved as the night of the universe approaches, to issue forth anew when morning breaks. Thus is it ordained.

परस्तस्मात्तुभावोऽन्योऽव्यक्तोऽव्यक्तात्सनातनः।
यःससर्वेषुभूतेषुनश्यत्सुनविनश्यति।।8.20।।

8.20 In truth, therefore, there is the Eternal Unmanifest, which is beyond and above the Unmanifest Spirit of Creation, which is never destroyed when all these being perish.

अव्यक्तोऽक्षरइत्युक्तस्तमाहुःपरमांगतिम्।
यंप्राप्यननिवर्तन्तेतद्धामपरमंमम।।8.21।।

8.21 The wise say that the Unmanifest and Indestructible is the highest goal of all; when once That is reached, there is no return. That is My Blessed Home.

पुरुषःसपरःपार्थभक्त्यालभ्यस्त्वनन्यया।
यस्यान्तःस्थानिभूतानियेनसर्वमिदंततम्।।8.22।।

8.22 O Arjuna! That Highest God, in Whom all beings abide, and Who pervades the entire universe, is reached only by wholehearted devotion.

Note by Shri Purohit Swami: The following material (between the asterisks) is an example of what may be a “doctored’ inclusion. It does not jibe with the rest of the material because it is not presented as metaphor and clearly implies that worldly phenomena are spiritually determining. Maybe it was added by an individual or individuals who were less cognizant than the originating author. Or maybe was ‘craftily’ inserted to function as a sort of litmus test – those who get “taken in” by it may be recognized as not having “spiritual discernment”.

यत्रकालेत्वनावृत्तिमावृत्तिंचैवयोगिनः।
प्रयातायान्तितंकालंवक्ष्यामिभरतर्षभ।।8.23।।

8.23 *Now I will tell thee, O Arjuna, of the times at which, if the mystics go forth, they do not return, and at which they go forth only to return.

अग्निर्ज्योतिरहःशुक्लःषण्मासाउत्तरायणम्।
तत्रप्रयातागच्छन्तिब्रह्मब्रह्मविदोजनाः।।8.24।।

8.24 If knowing the Supreme Spirit the sage goes forth with fire and light, in the daytime, in the fortnight of the waxing moon and in the six months before the Northern summer solstice, he will attain the Supreme.

धूमोरात्रिस्तथाकृष्णःषण्मासादक्षिणायनम्।
तत्रचान्द्रमसंज्योतिर्योगीप्राप्यनिवर्तते।।8.25।।

8.25 But if he departs in gloom, at night, during the fortnight of the waning moon and in the six months before the Southern solstice, then he reaches but lunar light and he will be born again.

शुक्लकृष्णेगतीह्येतेजगतःशाश्वतेमते।
एकयायात्यनावृत्तिमन्ययाऽऽवर्ततेपुनः।।8.26।।

8.26 These bright and dark paths out of the world have always existed. Whoso takes the former, returns not; he who chooses the latter, returns.*

The ancients had a good perception of the change in the orientation of the Earth as it rotated around the Sun. As the realization of the ultimate viewpoint grows like the days growing longer, the Yogi achieves his final destination, never to return. But as the Yogi devotes himself to actions with a motive like the days growing shorter, he must return to the mortal world to finish his business.

नैतेसृतीपार्थजानन्योगीमुह्यतिकश्चन।
तस्मात्सर्वेषुकालेषुयोगयुक्तोभवार्जुन।।8.27।।

8.27 O Arjuna! The saint knowing these paths is not confused. Therefore meditate perpetually.

वेदेषुयज्ञेषुतपःसुचैवदानेषुयत्पुण्यफलंप्रदिष्टम्।
अत्येतितत्सर्वमिदंविदित्वायोगीपरंस्थानमुपैतिचाद्यम्।।8.28।।

8.28 The sage who knows this passes beyond all merit that comes from the study of the scriptures, from sacrifice, from austerities and charity, and reaches the Supreme Primeval Abode.”

Subject Clearing

THE SUPREME SPIRIT
The Supreme Spirit is the Highest Imperishable Self, and Its Nature is spiritual consciousness. In modern language, we may express it as the Unknowable that has the ability to postulate and become aware. See Verses 8:1 – 8:5.

THE LAW
The worlds have been created and are supported by an emanation from the Spirit which is called the Law. In modern language, we may express it as the postulates that emanate out from the Unknowable. See Verses 8:1 – 8:5.

MATTER
Matter consists of the forms that perish. In modern language, we may express it as the “substance” of all manifestations. See Verses 8:1 – 8:5.

DIVINITY
Divinity is the Supreme Self. In modern language, we may express it as the Principle of Oneness, which applies to the postulates emanating from the Unknowable. See Verses 8:1 – 8:5.

SPIRIT OF SACRIFICE
In the Bhagavad Gita, the “spirit of sacrifice in man” is exemplified by Lord Shri Krishna. In modern language, we may express it as the “unattached viewpoint.” Reference The Unattached Viewpoint. See Verses 8:1 – 8:5.

FREEDOM UPON DEATH
Those who have an unattached viewpoint at the time of death by self-control, come to know of that viewpoint naturally after death. See Verses 8:1 – 8:5.

UPON DEATH GOING FORWARD
The clarity of thoughts and their level of attainment at the time of death seems to continue forward. The progress made in one lifetime in terms of evolution of knowledge, understanding and awareness is not lost.See Verses 8:6 – 8:7.

POWER OF MEDITATION
The whole point of meditation is to clearly understand the phenomena of the Universe. The universe reduces to a spectrum of substance from thought to energy to matter. The thought condenses into energy, and energy condenses into the atoms of matter. This substance is emanating from the Unknowable and is being empowered by it. All this is perceived by the practice of Yoga whose power comes from a single-pointed concentration. When you maintain this single-pointed concentration steadfastly at the time of death you get to know the Unknowable. See Verses 8:8 – 8:10.

GOAL
The goal of realizing the imperishable Self is attained by one who is free of passion. He practices celibacy. He closes all the gates of the body and concentrates all his vital energies in the brain. Repeating OM, the Symbol of Eternity, and thinking of Oneness, who thus leaves the body. He goes forth and reaches the Supreme Sprit. He has gained perfection. He is no longer reborn. See Verses 8:11 – 8:16.

COSMIC CYCLE
At the beginning of the Cosmic cycle all the manifestations stream forth from the Unknowable. At the end of the Cosmic cycle, they all dissolve back into the Unknowable. This is a very, very long time. This Cycle then repeats. See Verses 8:17 – 8:19.

ULTIMATE REALIZATION
Therefore, there is the Eternal Unknowable, which is beyond and above the Unknowable Spirit of Creation, which is never destroyed when the Cycle ends. It is the ultimate realization. Reaching it requires wholehearted devotion. See Verses 8:20 – 8:22.

The Postulates 11 – 15 (old)

Please refer to Subject Clearing Universe.

.

When we apply the method of SUBJECT CLEARING to the general knowledge we inevitably end up with the following postulates.

POSTULATE # 11: The space is more than the awareness of the visible material forms and the distances between them. The space, in general, describes the extents of energy and matter. [1]

COROLLARY: Matter is the visible form of condensed energy. Energy, otherwise, is invisible.

We look at the space beyond our planet and consider it to be “empty” except where clouds, stars, planets, etc., appear. But, in reality, space is always filled with invisible energy where it is not filled with matter. We may say that space exists only as extents of energy (matter is condensed energy), and that there is no space in the absence of energy.

In Euclidean geometry, the character of space is assumed to be uniformly rigid, because it is mainly concerned with the shape and volume of material objects. But space has a variable character depending on what is filling it. Einstein touched upon this varying character of space but only in mathematical terms. He did not provide a scientific explanation for space.

We perceive matter to be defined by a sharp boundary, but there is continuation of space from matter to surrounding energy. This is not visible to us. Similarly, changes in condensation of energy in space are not visible to us.

.

POSTULATE # 12: The time is more than the awareness of change and motion. Time actually describes the duration of the invisible energy and the visible matter. [2]

COROLLARY: Infinite duration at a location in space defines absolute rest. Lesser durations imply motion.

A “moving object” is continually changing its location in space. In doing so it endures at each location for a moment. A slow moving object endures longer at a location than a fast moving object. The duration of massive objects, like heavenly bodies, is quite high because they are very hard to push away from their locations. The duration of massless light, on the other hand, is negligible as obvious from the “speed of light.” Therefore, there is a direct relationship between duration (time) and mass (inertia) in an absolute sense.

Also, the higher is the duration, the slower is the innate motion. Such innate motions of energy and matter are absolute in nature. For example, the “speed of light” is absolute and not relative. On the other hand, the speed of Earth around the Sun is relative. The absolute motions of the earth and the sun are more or less inversely proportional to their durations, and, therefore, inversely proportional to their masses.

The duration of matter forms a very narrow band in which we observe all the motion of matter. Similarly, the duration of electromagnetic energy forms another narrow band in which motion varies per the frequency of energy. The two bands is so far apart in magnitude that from the reference point of the “matter band” the constant of ‘speed of light’ is applied to the whole electromagnetic band of energy because any differences due to difference in frequencies cannot be perceived. For the same reason, the differences in the speed of matter cannot be perceived from the reference point of the “electromagnetic band”, and all matter appears to be at standstill.

.

POSTULATE # 13: The cause-effect is a dimension of the universe that describes the direction in which evolution is taking place. [3]

COROLLARY: There is nothing outside the universe that could have caused or created the universe.

If there is a God, it would be an aspect that is integrated into the universe (see POSTULATE # 1). The interminable sequences of cause and effect could be circular with no beginning or end; but none of the cause can lie outside the universe. There is no such thing as “Uncaused Cause.” Therefore, cause-effect should be looked upon as a dimension of the universe. Cause-effect is not a simple duality like hot-cold. It is represented by a continuous scale like the temperature scale.

Cause and effect describe the two ends of the scale of evolution. This scale extends to infinity in either direction. Each point on the scale is the cause of the next point to the right. There is no absolute cause or effect. Thus, cause-effect simply describes the nature of this universe.

Cause is always connected with its effect by some route, even when that route is a long drawn one. This is represented in the Vedic theory of Karma. On a cosmic scale, karma is a very complex cycle of action that is moving forward towards its completion in slow motion. There is a sense of inevitability associated with it. If that cycle is hindered then all kind of repercussions result from it. Again those repercussions force the movement of that cycle toward its completion.

When there is an unwanted condition, one must trace it back to its cause before one can resolve it fully. When one avoids doing this, the unwanted condition can become very complicated. It may take many lifetimes to resolve all unwanted conditions and achieve enlightenment, but this a problem of energy and not of any particular identity.

.

POSTULATE # 14: The universal impulse-energy field of Akasha evolves as the spiritual-physical dimension of the universe.

COROLLARY: Neither physical is the product of spiritual, nor spiritual is the product of physical, because the two aspects lie on the same dimension.

The human body represents the physical dimension, and the self-awareness seems to represent the spiritual dimension; but these are not two separate dimensions. Both of these aspects have evolved from the universal impulse-energy field of Akasha. One cannot say that self-awareness has created the universe.

The spiritual and physical aspects are actually integrated in everything living and non-living. Spirit, mind and body are aspects of a single system, even when they are dealt with separately.  In Abrahamic religions the physical world is thought to be the product of God; but God is the product of self-awareness. In Scientology, MEST is thought to be the product of THETA; but THETA and MEST evolve together in this universe.

It is thought that the soul survives the death of the body; but the truth is that, upon death, both body and soul disintegrate into atoms and monads, which get recycled into new bodies and souls. Neither the same soul, nor the same body regenerates after death.

.

POSTULATE # 15: All dualities in human experience may be expanded as the dimensions of awareness.

COROLLARY: A dimension may be represented by a scale that extends to infinity in either direction.

“Continuous and Discrete” is a very fundamental duality of energy. Electromagnetic (EM) waves of low frequency were dealt by Maxwell as if they formed a continuum. But, as Einstein showed, these EM waves gradually become quantized at increasing frequencies. This means that the EM waves increasingly exhibit discrete particle-like properties similar to the atoms in a volume of gas. This was the discovery that won Einstein the Nobel Prize.

“Static and dynamic” is another interesting duality. Static is related to some potential state. As this potential state starts to manifest, we start to observe increasingly kinetic (dynamic) states as in a pendulum. In Scientology, we have THETA-MEST theory where THETA-MEST is more like the spiritual-physical dimension. But Scientology, superimposes the idea of static-dynamic on THETA-MEST. THETA is seen as static and MEST as dynamic; but both THETA and MEST can be static or dynamic. Superimposing static-dynamic on THETA-MEST is a serious flaw.

“Good-bad” is a duality seen in Christian morality in black and white terms. But “good-bad” as a dimension allows one to understand the degrees of goodness and badness in any individual. This leads to much better moral judgment about a person. Similarly treating other dualities, such as, “right-wrong,” “life-death,”“true-false,” etc., as dimensions leads to much better understanding.

.

[1] SCIENTOLOGY FACTOR # 5. Thus there is space created, for the definition of space is: viewpoint of dimension. And the purpose of a dimension point is space and a point of view.

[2] SCIENTOLOGY FACTOR # 21. From this comes a consistency of viewpoint of the interaction of dimension points and this, regulated, is TIME.

[3] SCIENTOLOGY FACTOR # 1. Before the beginning was a Cause and the entire purpose of the Cause was the creation of effect.

.

Summary of the Postulates

When we apply the method of SUBJECT CLEARING to the general knowledge we inevitably end up with the following postulates.

.

POSTULATE # 1: The universe is not just physical; it is metaphysical too. The universe includes everything whether physical, metaphysical, real, imaginary, postulated or speculated. Nothing is excluded from the universe.

COROLLARY: The universe includes everything that we observe and experience as body, mind and spirit and maybe more.

.

POSTULATE # 2: The fabric of the universe is “raw energy” (physical element) activated by innate “raw impulse” (metaphysical element).

DEFINITION: Energy is the basic substance of the universe, which appears as a field that gradually condenses into matter.

DEFINITION: The innate impulse appears as the activity of energy, such as, the “speed of light,” which gets increasingly complex as energy condenses.

.

POSTULATE # 3: The universe manifests itself, and then un-manifests itself in a cyclical fashion.

COROLLARY: The universe has neither an absolute beginning, nor an absolute end.

.

POSTULATE # 4: The cyclical nature of the universe is described by the passage of time.

COROLLARY: The passage of time is expressed through change and motion.

.

POSTULATE # 5: The ultimate Time (Maha Kala) is the backdrop of eternity that makes the passage of time apparent.

COROLLARY: Eternity may be described as “forever” and the state of “absolute rest”.

.

POSTULATE # 6: The cycle of the universe starts as a universal field of raw impulsive energy called Akasha.

COROLLARY: All forms in the universe evolve from condensation due to innate attractive attributes of Akasha.

COROLLARY: Matter is the visible form of condensed energy. Energy, otherwise, is invisible.

.

POSTULATE # 12: The time is more than the awareness of change and motion. Time actually describes the duration of the invisible energy and the visible matter.

COROLLARY: Infinite duration at a location in space defines absolute rest. Lesser durations imply motion.

.

POSTULATE # 13: The cause-effect is a dimension of the universe that describes the direction in which evolution is taking place.

COROLLARY: There is nothing outside the universe that could have caused or created the universe.

.

COROLLARY: All parts of the universe are continuous, harmonious and consistent.

.

POSTULATE # 17: Like all material forms in the universe, the human body also contain inertia, motion and force.

COROLLARY: The imbalance between inertia and motion generates internal force.

.

POSTULATE # 18: The human viewpoint starts out being centered on the human body but expands from there.

COROLLARY: The viewpoint can locate itself anywhere within the attention field.

.

POSTULATE # 19: The viewpoint reflects the general state of the mental matrix that fills the attention field.

COROLLARY: The viewpoint can move freely in the attention field.

COROLLARY: The body and its mental matrix form an identity that has a viewpoint.

.

POSTULATE # 22: The body forms the interface between the universal field of Akasha and the Attention field.

COROLLARY: The body converts physical energy of Akasha into metaphysical energy of the Attention field.

.

POSTULATE # 23: The mental matrix assimilates the metaphysical energy from the body into its matrix of perceptions.

COROLLARY: The anomalies in the matrix continually generate instructions for the body to act in a way to resolve them.

.

POSTULATE # 24: The attention field is the final assimilation of all the mental matrices in the universe.

COROLLARY: The purpose of the attention field is to reflect the universe of Akasha in its entirety.

.

POSTULATE # 25: The discrete identities are just the temporary aspects of self. The actual self is the continuous attention field.

COROLLARY: The identities disintegrate and reintegrate, but the attention field continues as the core of self.

.

POSTULATE # 26: The ability to resolve anomalies increases as the viewpoint becomes broader.

COROLLARY: The viewpoint is as broad as it is not fixated and is free to consider.

.

POSTULATE # 27: Meditation with the discipline of mindfulness helps solve anomalies.

DEFINITION: The discipline of mindfulness helps overcome filters that one may be looking through.

.

POSTULATE # 28: Resolution of anomalies is further supported by Subject Clearing.

DEFINITION: Subject Clearing is detecting the basic postulates, assumptions and erroneous ideas present in a subject.

.

POSTULATE # 29: The attention field continues while the identities disintegrate and regenerate.

COROLLARY: The recycling of identities supports the evolution of the attention field.

.

POSTULATE # 30: The root cause of all human troubles is the attachment to an identity (individualism).

COROLLARY: Trouble arises when individualism is given priority over the natural goals of family, groups, state, country, mankind, life, and the universe.

.

The Postulates 6 – 10 (old)

Please refer to Subject Clearing Universe.

NOTE (12/13/23): It appears that AKASHA is equivalent to SUBSTANCE. The substance condenses and evaporates cyclically.

.

When we apply the method of SUBJECT CLEARING to the general knowledge we inevitably end up with the following postulates.

POSTULATE # 6: The cycle of the universe starts as a universal field of raw impulsive energy called Akasha.

COROLLARY: All forms in the universe evolve from condensation due to innate attractive attributes of Akasha.

In Hinduism, Akasha means the basis and essence of all things in the material world; the first element created. The cycle of the universe starts with Akasha, a continuum of raw impulse and energy. Akasha has inherent attributes of attraction, and, therefore, impulse and energy attract each other. They integrate and condense as a result. From this condensation emerges everything in this universe.

Scientology refers to this inherent attributes of attraction as admiration. [1]

.

POSTULATE # 7: The condensation of Akasha leads to the formation of atoms and monads. [2]

DEFINITION: An atom is a vortex of energy that increasingly condenses in the direction of its nucleus.

DEFINITION: A monad is an influence that spreads out from the atom and interacts with the monads of other atoms.

The continuum of Akasha condenses into discrete atoms and monads. Early Greeks postulated atom as an indivisible unit of material substance; and monad as an indivisible unit of some immaterial substance. The condensation of raw energy results in the electronic configuration of the atom, which acts as a primitive body. The condensation of raw impulse results in the patterned influence of monad, which acts as a primitive mind. The interaction among monads serves as the primitive perception. Thus come about the properties and behaviors among atoms.

.

POSTULATE # 8: The electronic configuration of atoms condenses further into complex chemical configuration of molecules. [3]

COROLLARY: The monads develop into complex electrical, magnetic and electronic influences that make primitive computations possible.

The electronic configurations of atoms attract each other. Some of these attractions develop into tight chemical bonds providing increasingly complex configurations of molecules. The electronic currents around atomic nuclei of molecules develop patterns that make feedback and primitive computations possible. The electronic influence of these patterns start to generate material patterns of movement among the nuclei. Thus come about primitive animation of the molecular body.

This new capability of feedback (reaction) and animation at molecular level shows up in the chemical properties and primitive interactions among molecules. This ability is the beginning of life. The discrete molecular bodies exist in active state within the continuum of Akashic field. The primitive perception among molecules evolves.

.

POSTULATE # 9: The configurations of atoms and molecules evolve further to generate complex material life forms. [3]

COROLLARY: The influences develop into attention field with matrix of impressions (mental matrix) for sensing and coordinating purposes.

Here we have the evolution of life from single-celled organisms, such as, bacteria and protozoa to multicellular organisms, such as, sponges and fungi. After that, the biodiversity increases. The capabilities of sensing, reacting, computing and animating evolve in a corresponding manner. The monadic influences develop into a field of “attention” extending out from the body into the surrounding environment. Within this field there is a matrix of impressions of what the organism has perceived. This may be referred to as “mental matrix.” Activity among these impressions in the mental matrix, triggered by current perceptions, provide computations of primitive emotions that guide the activity of the organism. Thus there is evolution of life forms, such as, plants, insects, fish, reptiles, birds and mammals.

.

POSTULATE # 10: As the material life forms evolve from mammals to humans they develop a completely new ability of awareness. [4]

COROLLARY: The attention field and mental matrix develop into a mind that possesses a viewpoint on its unique identity. [5]

The mental matrix (matrix of perceptual impressions) becomes increasingly finer and integrated. This finer and integrated aspect becomes part of the attention field that develops an awareness of the environment, and its own relevance within it. It can feel, perceive and experience enough to wonder about it. It develops a sense of identity and becomes interested in exploring it. We may call this unique sense of identity as the viewpoint of the organism. The viewpoint gives the organism a sense of the location from which it is viewing.

The viewpoint does not create the external environment  as implied in Scientology. The thoughts about the environment are generated in the mind, which can then modify the view from the viewpoint. [6]

.

[1] Scientology Factor # 14: Many dimension points combine into larger gases, fluids or solids. Thus there is matter. But the most valued point is admiration, and admiration is so strong its absence alone permits persistence.

[2] Scientology Factor # 15: The dimension point can be different from other dimension points and thus can possess an individual quality. And many dimension points can possess a similar quality, and others can possess a similar quality unto themselves. Thus comes about the quality of classes of matter.

[3] Scientology Factor # 16: The viewpoint can combine dimension points into forms and the forms can be simple or complex and can be at different distances from the viewpoints and so there can be combinations of form. And the forms are capable of motion and the viewpoints are capable of motion and so there can be motion of forms.

[4] Scientology Factor # 2: In the beginning and forever is the decision and the decision is TO BE.

[5] Scientology Factor # 3: The first action of beingness is to assume a viewpoint.

[6] Scientology Factor # 4: The second action of beingness is to extend from the viewpoint, points to view, which are dimension points.

The Postulates 1 – 5 (old)

Please refer to Subject Clearing Universe.

When we apply the method of SUBJECT CLEARING to the general knowledge we inevitably end up with the following postulates.

.

INTRODUCTION TO THE UNIVERSE

POSTULATE # 1A: The universe is not just physical; it is metaphysical too. The universe includes everything whether physical, metaphysical, real, imaginary, postulated or speculated. Nothing is excluded from the universe.

COROLLARY: The universe includes everything that we observe and experience as body, mind and spirit and maybe more.

Science treats the universe as if it is just physical. Even religion separates the universe from God, implying that the universe does not include the spiritual aspect of God. No wonder we have a limited concept of the universe. The truth is that physical and spiritual are simply two different aspects of the universe that we can visualize. The actual universe is much, much more. It goes beyond what we can visualize.

POSTULATE # 1B: The universe is a single continuous entity.

COROLLARY: The physical and spiritual aspects of the universe are integrated with each other.

The word UNIVERSE is derived from a Latin word that meant “entire, all, literally, turned into one”. No matter how discrete the parts of the universe may appear, they always have an underlying continuity. In science we have the theory of “multiple universes”; but these theorists seem to be missing the fact that a collection of “universes” will simply make a larger universe. There is no absolute separateness between these “multiverses.” There is always some connection somewhere. Absence of a connection will pose an anomaly to be resolved.

The actual universe is much larger than the physical universe of science. The physical universe has the spiritual component missing. The science tries to hide that spiritual component under the definition of energy. In the ultimate sense, energy has its own innate impulse. The idea that this impulse comes from some hidden source called “God,” introduces a mystery when there is none. It may be just that there is more to know about energy. Science is definitely moving in that direction.

.

THE PRIMARY PROPERTY OF THE UNIVERSE (CYCLES)

POSTULATE # 2A: The universe has neither a beginning, nor an end.

This postulate comes from the ancient Vedas. It takes quite an insight to come up with this postulate. It is supported by the Law of Conservation of Energy in Physics. We can never know if there is an absolute beginning to this universe, or if it will ever end in an absolute sense. When the questions of beginning and end are put aside, we can concentrate on understanding the properties of this universe. According to the verse 7:6 of The Bhagavad Gita, this universe manifests and unmanifests in the The Unattached Viewpoint unceasingly. This is where the Vedas came closest to describing God.

POSTULATE # 2B: The universe manifests and un-manifests in a cyclical fashion.

The manifesting and un-manifesting is essentially the universe switching back and forth between kinetic and potential states. The Big Bang model in physics seems to explain the manifesting of the kinetic state of the universe. The universe manifests as space that condenses into energy, which condenses further into matter. The condensation occurs in the form of galaxies, stars and planets floating in space. .

The Scientology Factor # 1 states, “Before the beginning was a Cause and the entire purpose of the Cause was the creation of effect.” This Factor applies to a cycle of the universe. There is always a previous cycle. The Cause would be the previous cycle. There is no primary cause.

The Scientology Factor # 2 states, “In the beginning and forever is the decision and the decision is TO BE.” This Factor applies to the duration of a cycle of the universe.

.

THE DIMENSION OF CONTINUITY (TIME)

POSTULATE 3A: The cyclical nature of the universe is manifested as time.

The ultimate cycle is that of eternity within which the cycles of the universe are appearing. This backdrop of eternity is unchanging from the viewpoint of the universe. Similarly, the backdrop of this universe is unchanging from our viewpoint, because we are part of a cycle that is changing within this universe. All the cycles that we are aware of, are appearing and disappearing within the cycle of this universe. Our current “eternity” is this cycle of the universe. We assign durations to all the cycles within this universe with respect to the “foreverness” of the universe. These relative durations of cycles form our sense of time. The Maha Kala of Vedas is the backdrop of eternity that makes the passage of time apparent.

POSTULATE 3B: Eternity may be described as “forever” and the state of “absolute rest”.

When an object, such as, a distant star, seem to endure indefinitely at its location, then it is thought to be at rest. Compared to that star, the planets are moving, and compared to the planets, the moons are moving. “Forever” then becomes an unchanging condition in terms of location or otherwise. Compared to it, a changing condition becomes a purveyor of time.

POSTULATE 3C: Passage of time may be described as “change” and the state of “motion”.

A basic change occurs when an object un-manifests at a location and manifests at an adjacent location. Continued changes in locations are interpreted as the movement of that object. When planets in the sky appear to move, they are simply changing their location compared to unmoving stars that form the background. The stars are relatively more fixed at their locations, or have greater endurance. The movement of the planets provides the sense of time passing.

POSTULATE 3D: Time is measured in terms of the duration of a cycle.

A cycle may be divided into smaller and smaller cycles ad infinitum. The duration of a cycle may be measured as a multiple of the duration of a smaller cycle. It can also be measured as a fraction of the duration of a larger cycle. The duration of a cycle acts as a unit of time. Therefore, time, essentially, is the duration of something measured in terms of the duration of a standard cycle.

.

THE DIMENSION OF CONSISTENCY (SPACE-ENERGY-MATTER)

POSTULATE # 4A: The universe is an infinite impulse that manifests as space.

COROLLARY: Space is not a void. Space is substantial.

Science sees space as consisting of a mechanism called the Higgs field. The Higgs field converts infinite motion into finite motion and inertia. Inertia is the resistance to motion. No inertia would mean infinite motion. Thus, inertia and finite motion balance each other. This results in constant velocity and momentum. The latter characteristics provide substantiality, which we recognize as SUBSTANCE. The mechanism of Higgs, therefore, generates substance in space. An example of substance is light that exhibits constant velocity and momentum.

POSTULATE # 4B: The substance of the universe appears as electromagnetic radiation in space.

Momentum is the product of inertia and constant velocity. Momentum gives substance an ability to generate impact. The greater is a substance’s impact, the more substantial it is. This substantiality is expressed as consistency (a degree of density, firmness, viscosity, etc.).  Variation in consistency generates a spectrum of substance. We are familiar with it as the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum. The electromagnetic substance appears as a series of radiation from radio waves to gamma radiation of increasing consistency. This radiation also has the characteristics of volume-space and duration. As consistency increases, the volume-space condenses, and the duration increases. Increase in duration means that the constant velocity decreases. At the upper end of this spectrum we have cathode rays (electrons). Cathode ray have much higher consistency than light. It is much more condensed in space than light. And its duration is much higher as indicated by it velocity that is much less than that of light.

POSTULATE # 4C: Beyond electromagnetic radiation we have the substance of matter.

The electromagnetic radiation flows like a fluid. It has consistency but that consistency is not concentrated in space. When that consistency becomes concentrated in space we have the substance of matter. We call such consistency mass. The center of mass is a property of matter only. It does not exist for electromagnetic radiation. The electron has consistency but it does not have a center of mass. Therefore, electron is a radiation and not a mass particle. The electron is incorrectly referred to as having mass. In fact, electron has inertia and momentum only. So, mass has a specific definition. It is consistency or inertia that is concentrated at points in space. An atom is the result of such concentration. Atoms are characteristic of matter and not of electromagnetic radiation.

POSTULATE # 4D: The atoms are whirlpools that are fixed  at their center by mass.

The atom is best understood as a whirlpool of radiation that is condensing toward its center. It is pinned at its center by mass. This mass is called the nucleus of the atom. Thus, an atom has the same whirlpool pattern that we see in galaxies. A galaxy is pinned at its center by a “black hole.” Atoms are oriented randomly in space just like the galaxies are. Since matter has the highest condensation, consistency and inertia, it is seen as curving the space around itself. Because of such curvature, the mass particles, when big and close enough, attract each other. This results in the gravitational force, which is measured as weight of the smaller particle.

NOTE: The whirlpool structure may be formed in electromagnetic radiation but it is not pinned to any mass. It may, therefore, appear and disappear randomly in the flow of radiation giving particle-like impression, such as, of electrons in the cathode ray. But such impressions are limited to discrete interactions between radiation and matter; and such discreteness is not relatively permanent as in the case of atoms in matter.

.

THE DIMENSION OF HARMONY (PROPERTIES)

POSTULATE # 5: The infinite impulse manifests as substance, its motion and its properties.

The infinite impulse appears as substance. The most fundamental property of substance is forceful motion or momentum arising from inertia. Force appears whenever there is change in momentum. Energy is the potential or actual manifestation of that change. All these properties are the manifestations of the original impulse. With increasingly complex forms come about increasingly complex properties, such as, animation, reactions, thinking and intelligence. The properties are physical and metaphysical. There appears to be innate impulses animating energy forms. Light propagates with an incredible speed with nothing pushing it. The electrons in an atom revolve around the nucleus on their own. And the Brownian motion of pollen grains makes them come alive. And then there is life. All these properties present a harmony.
