Failure of Scientology

The failure of Scientology lies in

(1) Chasing individual power and status
(2) Being afraid of criticism.
(3) Seeking security through money and force.

Question for Scientology “Purists”

Tom_Cruise

Here is a question I have for Scientology “purists” that I put on JIM ROSS MESKIMEN’S BLOG

.

I saw this article on Facebook, and that is why I am here. I like Scientology too because I have been helped by it, but there are also aspects of Scientology that I don’t like, and which I try to understand. I hope you wouldn’t mind if I take up one of those aspects for discussion on your blog.

My earlier experiences in Scientology were wonderful; so much so that I documented them in My Introduction to America. Those early experiences gave me hope that I could get a grass-roots movement in education going in my country (India), through which people could improve themselves. The ancient movement of “meditation” had lost its steam long ago. But auditing as “directed meditation” could put life back in it.

But then I saw Scientology moving away from its early promise of creating a grass-roots movement in the field. I saw it becoming very sensitive to criticism even if that criticism were valid. I saw it declaring people as squirrels and suppressive if they thought on their own to make Scientology principles easier to apply at the grass-roots level. I saw an obsessive control to keep the technology out of general reach under the pretext of keeping it “pure.”

As we see in the field of science that the purity of knowledge would always be aspired for and any corruption of knowledge would just wash away over time. All one has to do is to make those basic principles easier to understand and apply. And that is what I have gone back to doing on my blog, which may not be appreciated by the “purists.”

Should or should not the Scientology research be continued by others, after Hubbard’s passing away? Shouldn’t the principles discovered by Hubbard be made easier to be applied at the grass-roots level?

.

PS: It was 1969 when I first came across Dianetics and Scientology, and dreamed of a grass-roots movement going in India. But, today, my country is the United States of America. It is where I live. And now I dream of a grass-roots movement in education started throughout the world.

I hope to accomplish that dream with the help of KHTK (Knowing How To Know), which is inspired in part by Scientology.

THETA & MEST

Hubbard
Reference: Scientology

The THETA-MEST Theory

“Theta is thought, life force, elan vital, the spirit, the soul, or any other of the numerous definitions it has had for some thousands of years… [It is] the energy peculiar to life which acts upon material in the physical universe and animates it, mobilizes it and changes it.” ~ Hubbard

To do justice to the above definition, one should have a good grasp of words like thought, life force, elan vital, the spirit, the soul, etc. Theta is the animation principle of a live body.

The body is made up of matter and energy that functions in space and time. This characteristic is abbreviated as MEST in Scientology. The body functions on its own. This aliveness of the body is referred to as THETA in Scientology.

THETA and MEST are the two primary aspects of life because, without them, there is no life. On a universal scale, THETA represents the spiritual dimension, and MEST represents the physical dimension. To call this universe the physical universe is a misnomer. This is a “spiritual-physical” universe.

THETA (spiritual) and MEST (physical) are two different aspects of this universe.

.

“Theta is thought; an energy of its own universe analogous to energy in the physical universe but only occasionally paralleling electromagnetic-gravitic laws… [Theta is] an energy existing separate and distinct from the physical universe.” ~ Hubbard

I disagree with Hubbard in viewing THETA and MEST as two separate and distinct universes. In my view THETA and MEST are more like harmonics of each other in this universe.

In Quantum Mechanics, pure motion takes the form of a wave. As this wave motion encounters resistance, particle like properties, such as, discreteness, location and mass emerge. It is wave morphing into a particle, rather than wave producing a particle.

Wave + resistance (inertia) = particle

Similarly, it may be observed that as THETA encounters inconsistencies, MEST like properties, such as, concreteness emerge. It is THETA morphing into MEST, rather than THETA producing MEST.

THETA + inconsistency (disharmony) = MEST

THETA and MEST are relative harmonics of the same universe.

.

In THETA-MEST THEORY Hubbard states:

Scientology is essentially a study of statics [theta] and kinetics [MEST]… it is dealing with a theoretical static and a theoretical kinetic which are at the opposite ends of a spectrum of all motion… It is now considered that the origin of MEST lies with theta itself, and that MEST, as we know the physical universe, is a product of theta.”

The above may be interpreted to mean that THETA creates MEST in the manner that God created the physical universe. This interpretation is inconsistent because one end of a spectrum does not create the other end.

In a spectrum, one end morphs in small gradients to become the other end. THETA and MEST are part of the same spectrum.

.

The impreciseness of Hubbard shows up once again in the following statement.

“[Theta is] not a nothingness. It just happens to be an exterior thing to this universe—so you couldn’t talk about it in this universe’s terms.”

This universe is more than a “physical universe.” One can talk about THETA as an earlier harmonic of MEST in the dimension of Abstraction. The complete model of the universe may look something like the one described in the following essay.

A New Model of Universe

.

Summary

Hubbard makes THETA and MEST very distinct from each other in his THETA-MEST theory. However, this generates inconsistency.

It is more consistent to view THETA and MEST as relative gradients on a spectrum. They are aspects of the same existence. They cannot be separated as motion cannot be separated from what is moving.

It seems that Hubbard expressed the idea of MEST being a product of THETA, almost as an afterthought. He could have been influenced by the earlier similar Christian idea of the spiritual God creating a physical universe.

In these ideas spirituality is assumed to exist independently from physicality. But in reality we observe that both spirituality and physicality make up this universe.

To call this universe a “physical” universe is a misnomer. This is a spiritual-physical universe.

Questioning Scientology

GuessWhere2

Hinduism allows its scriptures to be questioned.

Buddha encouraged his disciples to question his teachings.

Knowledge grows when it is questioned and discussed. For inconsistencies are then discovered and eliminated.

Why does Scientology prohibit its followers to question and discuss its knowledge?

If Scientology must grow it should allow its theories to be examined, questioned, challenged and discussed by its followers.

The other option would be for Scientology to go the way of the Catholic Church – moving lifelessly only because of past momentum.

KHTK Axiom #3 and Scientology

Motion

In Scientology we have,

FACTOR 3: The first action of beingness is to assume a viewpoint.

FACTOR 4: The second action of beingness is to extend from the viewpoint, points to view, which are dimension points.

FACTOR 5: Thus there is space created, for the definition of space is: viewpoint of dimension. And the purpose of a dimension point is space and a point of view.

Thus, in Scientology we have the idea of a Cause deciding to be, and then assuming a viewpoint to generate space. A lot of mechanics is assumed here before space comes about.

However, any mechanics involves motion, and if motion is there then space and time are already there. Thus, there seems to be an inherent contradiction in the above hypothesis presented in Scientology.

.

Mindfulness and Science lead us to the following axiom.

KHTK Axiom #3: Awareness of motion is composed of space and time.

Awareness arises and disappears with relative motion. This motion manifests as space and time in our awareness.

Thus, space and time are aspects of motion. It is incorrect to think that motion derives from space and time.

The Factors of Scientology state that a Cause creates space through some mechanics and then, through more mechanics, it brings about motion.

Such hypothesis of Scientology is unnecessarily complicated and questionable.
