The Level of OT II

Reference: Scientology OT Levels

According to Subject Clearing, one handles facsimiles on the Grades. By the time one goes Clear, most of the facsimiles are erased. The job now remains of handling one’s misconceptions. This is done on OT levels. The misconception about the concept of beingness is addressed on The Level of OT I.

SELF
The SELF is the ability to postulate and to become aware. It pervades everything. It is considered to be infinite. It has no individuality.

BEING
The “being” is a package of postulates energized by Self. It consists of postulated goals and behavior characteristics. It carries the detailed blueprint for the body and the mind. The being, therefore, has as an individuality, and it is finite with a beginning and an end.

THE PERSON (BEINGNESS)
The person is the BEING that is grounded in SELF. He is most happy and operates optimally when his postulates are not in violation of the principle of Oneness.

In Scientology, Self is called THETA, the blueprint for the body is called the GE (Genetic Entity), and the higher faculties with the sense of individuality is called the THETAN.

A valiant effort is now made on OT II to address the anomalies among the postulates that make up the beingness.

.

THE GPM

GPM stands for “Goals, Problem, Mass.” Conflicts among goals lead to basic tensions that express themselves in various ways. Goals are postulates.

GPMs essentially refer to the anomalies at the level of postulates. They propagate themselves as misconceptions.

Hubbard researched all possible anomalies at this deep level of beingness, and grouped them into GPMs. He arranged these GPMs from the earliest to the latest. This forms the Whole Track Table.

.

WHOLE TRACK TABLE

One goes through this whole track table from the earliest to the latest at least 10 times. Some charge may not appear in the earlier runs, but may appear in the later runs. Going through this table 10 times will make sure that most charge has been taken care of.

TOCKY GPM
BIG BEING GPM

PSYCHO GPM
BANKY GPM

NOTE: The items in the list above are linked to more detailed descriptions.

.

The Charge

Charge is the tension in an anomaly. In a person’s beingness, the charge has built up gradually from the earliest to the later anomalies. The earlier is an anomaly the more subtle is the charge, and it is very hard to detect.

These anomalies are buried so deep in the psyche of the person that they are not real to him. It is very important that the person goes over these GPM items again and again until he can visualize them in some form and make some sense out of them.

The E-meter cannot be trusted at this level because the charge is very small and it can bleed away quite rapidly. It is better for the person to contemplate on each anomaly using the subject clearing approach (gut feeling of oneness) and establish a sense of clarity.

.

Hubbard’s Theory

This level of OT II reminds of all the trigger words that Hubbard compiled in the book Scientology 8-8008 as a process.

Basically, Hubbard’s theory seems to be that the words are condensed thoughts, and they act as unassimilated impressions. So, the thoughts compressed in words needs to be assimilated.

Word Clearing helps, but it doesn’t fully assimilate all the thoughts. Subject clearing is the next level of assimilation, which Hubbard attempted on the OT Levels.

But Hubbard’s attachment to “individuality” and “scientific-ness” of the E-meter doomed his otherwise brilliant effort.

.

How to run GPMs

Hubbard is simply listing items that may be charged on a case. Not all these items may be charged for you. But it is possible that some of the items are charged.

To run a GPM, you contemplate on its items one at a time in the given sequence. At this level the charge appears as confusion (lack of clarity) or as tension. Your aim is to remove confusion, restore clarity and resolve any tension.

Deep contemplation will reveal to you whether you fully understand each word in that item. This may take some time in the beginning only. Later many of the same words repeat. This may remind you of Method 1 Word Clearing. You clear up each word conceptually from its origin and the various meanings and usages.

Further deep contemplation will reveal to you if you understand the item itself in relation to your experience. You will know right away if there is some charge (confusion or tension) present. If none then you move to the next item. But if there is some charge you focus and follow up on it until it is resolved.

During the first run you may go through the items pretty fast picking up and resolving the obvious charge. During the subsequent runs you look more closely and clean up the remaining charge.

This is the whole process. You do not need an E-meter to run this process. You do not want to be dependent on a MEST device. You simply trust your guts. Wonderful gains are available if this process is done exactly as laid out above.

NOTE: Your guts naturally respond to the principle of Oneness.

More details are provided under each GPM, as necessary, on how to run it.

.

Summary

A person starts from the earliest GPM item, and works toward the later items establishing clarity of understanding (or a lack of confusion).

At this level, we are not dealing with facsimiles. We are dealing with misconceptions, and the charge is felt as a lack of clarity. Therefore, it is a matter of making sure that there is no confusion on the item one is contemplating on, before moving to the next item.

If the confusion starts to build up simply recheck the previous items, or the previous GPM.

The purpose of OT II is to discover and resolve the misconceptions and mis-postulates underlying the unwanted conditions.

The concept of GPM as a problematic mental construct was one of my first loves in Scientology auditing and it has remained so through the years.

Great! I would like to know more about it.

Thanks for putting all this together! I’m an independent Scientologist, and never belonged to the Church of Scientology. I took up the practice via the Free Zone movement. I tried to complete the OT levels using the E-meter but I made no real progress. I think you’re quite right about the limitations of the E-meter, especially at the OT levels. Since I found your website, and the Subject Clearing method, I’m getting much better results. I’m still working through OT II but I can already tell it’s bearing more fruit than when I tried it with an E-meter. Thanks!

brenainngriffudd..you are now running OT II without a meter. Curious, how do you know when to end off on a line?

Curious, how do you know when to end off on a line when using an E-meter?

As I remember you flatten the read by going over that line again and again. In other words you are contemplating on that line until something falls into place.

In my experience, one knows it internally when something has fallen into place, without the assistance of the E-meter. Actually, it is more precise without the E-meter because the E-meter could be reacting on other background noise and that could distract or misdirect.

The whole purpose of going over a line is to contemplate over it and sort out any considerations about it. If you cannot do it without an E-meter then there is something very wrong. You have become dependent on the E-meter and auditing mechanically.

Hello, Pat. That is a good question. Vinaire has pretty much answered it in his reply. You eventually develop an internal sense about it. For example, I’ve actually been able to feel the charge slowly but steadily dissipate as I run the lines again and again. A sense of clarity begins to emerge, and things just start to “click” in an intuitive way. That’s probably the best way that I can explain the feeling of that internal sense. Hope that helps to answer your question.

It does, and very well done.

  • vinaire  On December 23, 2023 at 8:46 PM

I should add that the Subject Clearing Discipline is a more natural substitute for the E-meter. The E-meter is used by the auditor, but the Subject Clearing Discipline is used by the person being audited; and that is more important.

You get a good sense of charge dissipating and clarity emerging when clearing up words and concepts. You do not require and E-meter to tell you that.

How do you run GPMs, and who says Hubbard got them right in the first place?
