An Educated and Honest View

Brian Culkin on Scientology

At 30:20 into this video, there is an insightful observation on the core beliefs of Scientology .

The “Invalidation” Button

“Because one believes in oneself, one doesn’t try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn’t need others’ approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.”
― Lao Tzu

criticism
Reference: Scientology

.

This process is for those who zealously try to convince others of their ideology, and get easily upset when people do not see things their way. They feel that they are being made wrong when inconsistencies are pointed out in their convictions. They cannot take any criticism. They cannot discuss calmly.

Scientologists use a special word at the first whiff of any criticism – INVALIDATION, as in, “You are invalidating me.” But words like WOGS and RAW MEAT are built into their vocabulary for those who are not scientologists.

Scientologists not only scream against being invalidated, but they also invalidate back immediately using convenient Scientology vocabulary like “suppressive,” “antago” or “1.1”. This button of “invalidation” tends to be very prominent among Scientologists both ways.

Recently, I was called “antago” in a Scientology groups on Facebook because I presented the Buddhist view that soul is impermanent. This view went against their cherished belief in an eternal “thetan.” In the upset that followed nothing that I could say made any difference. They were simply not willing to listen. They started to misinterpret anything I had to say, and make me wrong any way they could. No discussion was possible.

Those who often feel invalidated may find some relief from using the following process.

.

THE PROCESS

Scientologists use processes. So here is a process for those who very often feel invalidated. Contemplate on

“What is it that is getting invalidated?”

This process is done with KHTK approach (mindfulness), and not with Scientology approach (listing). Take the first item that comes at the top of the mental stack and mindfully contemplate over it. Then take the next, and the next, until no more items are coming up.

The 12 aspects of mindfulness are:

  1. Observe without expecting anything, or attempting to get an answer.

  2. Observe things as they really are, not as they seem to be.

  3. If something is missing do not imagine something else in its place.

  4. If something does not make sense then do not explain it away.

  5. Use physical senses as well as mental sense to observe.

  6. Let the mind un-stack itself.

  7. Experience fully what is there.

  8. Do not suppress anything.

  9. Associate data freely.

  10. Do not get hung up on name and form.

  11. Contemplate thoughtfully.

  12. Let it all be effortless.

.

One will find that it is always a consideration that one holds dear, which one feels is getting invalidated. Recognize that consideration. Then recognize your attachment to, or identification with that consideration.

One starts out being the sum total of one’s considerations.

Know thyself.

Spirituality, Hypnotism and Mindfulness

Faith healing

There is start, change, and stop; but why be fixated on any of these factors! Each one of them has its own place and utility.

There is birth, survival and death; but why be fixated on any of these states! This is just life.

Some are so fixated on “survive” that they tremble at the idea of “death.” They will listen to anybody who promises them immortality. This is a fertile ground for hypnotists who generally have “magnetic personalities.”

A hypnotist can make others believe in “implant stations” to such a degree that they even “experience” it. He can make them believe in “souls without bodies roaming around the universe,” and they will “experience” it.

No shit!

The inoculation against such pervasive conditioning is mindfulness.

THE 12 ASPECTS OF MINDFULNESS

Running Scientology Grade 0 with Mindfulness (old)

Grade 0A

Please see ARC Straight wire Processes

At Grade 0 processing level of Scientology one deals with Communication. It removes mental barriers so one may communicate freely with anyone on any subject.

Normally these processes are run on a person by a trained scientology auditor with the help of an instrument called e-meter. But these same processes may be run by a person on himself/herself using the discipline of mindfulness.

.

These are the 12 aspects of mindfulness:

  • Observe without expecting anything, or attempting to get an answer.
  • Observe things as they are, without assuming anything.
  • If something is missing do not imagine something else in its place.
  • If something does not make sense then do not explain it away.
  • Use physical senses as well as mental sense to observe.
  • Let the mind un-stack itself.
  • Experience fully what is there.
  • Do not suppress anything.
  • Associate data freely.
  • Do not get hung up on name and form.
  • Contemplate thoughtfully.
  • Let it all be effortless.

One may develop the discipline of mindfulness by doing the exercises provided here:

The 12 Aspects of Mindfulness

Scientology Grade 0 processes are then run with the discipline of mindfulness using “un-stacking the mind” per STEP 6 OF MINDFULNESS

.

.

ARC STRAIGHTWIRE PROCESSES

Here is Part 1 of the list of Scientology Grade 0 processes. You may run them by letting the mind un-stack itself. Please note that these processes may run out quite fast. You may go over all of them from beginning to end a second and a third time.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In KHTK (mindfulness) there should be no effort applied to recalling and remembering. Any such effort would violate the principle of letting the mind un-stack itself. If you recall, or remember, and the material simply appears, then that is fine. But, when no material appears, even when you know it is there, then you also know that something else needs to be un-stacked first. That something may be handled on some other process. So, please, don’t go digging into the mind. If you feel something is there just beyond awareness then simply observe patiently as required by mindfulness. The material will show up eventually.

A communication lag (comm lag) is the time it takes to get response from the mind to a question asked.

A lack of communication lag would mean that the mind is un-stacking properly. One would then run those processes first that produce the least comm lag. That would bring about maximum gain, and it would also help reduce comm lag on later processes.

A person trained on mindfulness can easily observe the communication lag within himself. He can then identify the Grade 0 process that produces minimal comm lag. He would run that process before others.

.

At any point you may reset the mind by doing the following exercise.

Mindfulness 12: Let it be effortless

.

REMEMBER SOMETHING

“Remember something.”

Please let the details of memory appear without any effort. If the memory does not appear, then something else needs to be un-stacked first. That may happen in some other process. So, please do not go digging for some memory. Just let it be.

A KHTK version of this process could be:

“Look around and spot an existing memory, thought or idea.”

The stress is on “existing”. One should not imagine a memory, thought or idea newly.

.

RECALL A TIME

“Recall a time.”

Just notice what comes up. Do not push. If you feel something is there then simply observe patiently as required by mindfulness. The material will show up eventually.

A KHTK version of this process could be:

“Look around and spot an existing desire, expectation or speculation.”

The stress is on “existing”. One should not imagine a desire, expectation or speculation newly.

.

COMM RECALL PROCESS

“Recall a Communication.”

A KHTK version of this process could be:

“Look around and spot a communication that has been lingering in your mind.”

.

THE ONLY BASIC AFFINITY PROCESS

“What would you like to confront?”

“What would another like to confront?”

“What would others like to confront?”

“What would you like to confront in yourself?”

To confront would be to “observe mindfully.”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response). Note whatever comes up.

.

EXHAUSTION

“Recall Exhaustion.”

This is physical and mental exhaustion that is accompanied by tiredness.

.

PAST AND FUTURE EXPERIENCE

“What part of your life would you be willing to re-experience?”

“What part of the future would you be willing to experience?”

Run these questions alternately to exhaustion (no further response). The responses may uncover incidents that are difficult to confront. Just spot them accurately in time. Take whatever the mind brings up. Do not dig into the mind.

.

FORGETTING SIX WAY BRACKET

“Recall (or think of) something you wouldn’t mind…”

  1. Forgetting yourself

  2. Another person forgetting

  3. Forgetting about another

  4. Another forgetting about you

  5. Other people forgetting

  6. Another person forgetting about another person.

These commands are run as a bracket in sequence one after another.

.

CAUSE ELEMENTARY STRAIGHTWIRE

“What would it be all right for another to make forgotten?”

“What would it be all right for you to make forgotten?”

“What would it be all right for others to make forgotten?”

“What would it be alright for you to make forgotten about yourself?”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response).

.

DUPLICATION STRAIGHTWIRE

“What would another permit to have happen again?”

“What would you permit to have happen again?”

“What would others permit to have happen again?”

“What would you permit to have happen to yourself again?”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response).

 .

KNOW TO MYSTERY RECALL PROCESS

“Recall an Unconsciousness”

“Recall Waiting”

“Recall a Mystery”

“Recall Sex”

“Recall Eating” (or a variation “Recall Food”)

“Recall a Symbol”

“Recall Thinking”

“Recall an Effort”

“Recall an Emotion”

“Recall Looking”

“Recall Knowing”

“Recall Not-Knowing”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response).

Handling Deep-seated Confusions

confusion01

This KHTK process may help a person handle deep-seated confusions. Look at each question below per the 12 Steps of Mindfulness. If the mind brings up something then look at it more closely. If nothing comes up then skip that question.

A) Look at a practice, opinion, or belief you have been connected to whether you left it or not.

B) What condition have you encountered in that practice, opinion, or belief?

C) How have you handled it?

For each question simply take up what comes up naturally at the top of the “mental stack” when the 12 steps of mindfulness are used.

This process may be done while sitting on a chair with back straight, or while walking at a comfortable pace. The eyes may be open or closed. I usually do these processes with eyes closed while walking on a treadmill. Walking seems to provide additional energy that helps execute these processes faster.

This process may be attempted as many time as one wishes. It is possible that nothing may come up on the first few attempts.

This process made me look at the practice in India of eating all the food in one’s plate and not wasting any. The condition that was apparently being addressed was meager food resources. This practice when internalized amounts to force feeding with adverse affect on health when there is too much food on the plate, as is the case in USA. I am now practicing to quit eating when I feel that 80% of the hunger is satisfied.

.

The above process is derived from the following ‘Power Process #2’ of Scientology:

a) “Give me some practices, opinions, or beliefs you have been connected to whether you left them or not. Run to the first blowdown item.

b) Then take the blowdown item plus the two items up and two items down from it and assess those five item to one.

c) Run on the item;

1. What condition have you encountered in ___________?

2. How have you handled it?

The Scientology process requires an auditor and an e-meter. The KHTK process, on the other hand, can be done by oneself under the discipline provided by the 12 Steps of Mindfulness.
