Quantum Physics & Mathematics

Mathematics views reality as fundamentally discrete. It even approximates continuity through infinity of vanishing discrete units. It then finds itself becoming increasingly complex when it tries to deal with the reality at the quantum level.

Understanding seems to decrease with Increasing complexity.

At the quantum level we find the wave nature coexisting with particle nature. From the viewpoint of abstraction, this is “continuity” coexisting with “discrete-ness”.

Physics has been using the model prescribed by Euclidean geometry in its application of mathematics. The “probability function” at quantum level assumes locations in space to be like dimensionless points of Euclidean geometry. This approach is adequate to model mass particles in space, but when it comes to space with no mass particles in it, the Euclidean approach becomes questionable.

How can a point that, by definition, has a boundary, be devoid of volume or mass? It is at best an idealization for a vanishing particle, but when it comes to defining continuity, that supposes no boundary at the level of “point” this idealization does not seem to work. The boundary comes from the mass of a particle. When there is no mass there is no boundary. Pure energy has no point like boundaries. If pure energy has boundaries at all, then they seem to enclose a dimension equal, at least, to the wavelength of energy.

When it comes to modeling continuity of space, the dimensionless point presents a logical inconsistency.

We expect the atomic electron with “diffused mass” to have a “large” location. When we try to approximate that location with dimensionless points it seems to introduce arbitrary assumptions. We base the “probability function” of quantum mechanics on Euclidean geometry, and this basis is questionable. It is no wonder that there are so many suppositions, conclusions and conjectures related to quantum mechanics that lead to incomprehensible oddities.

We desperately need to model the quantum phenomenon such that it moves our understanding toward greater simplicity. It may need mathematics that can conceive of “points” that have variable dimensions. Such mathematics may define photons by “points” that have dimensions equal to the wavelength of the corresponding electromagnetic wave.

We may need a mathematical model for quantum phenomenon that shows continuity condensing toward increasing “discrete-ness”.

  1. Spiritual awareness and physical space are two aspects of the same reality. These two aspects came about simultaneously.

  2. Consciousness arose with disturbance in awareness, just like electromagnetism arose with disturbance in space.

  3. Consciousness may be called fabric of awareness (self-awareness), just like electromagnetism may be called the fabric of space.

It is an error to think that spiritual and physical phenomena are independent of each other, and to speculate on which came first, or which produced the other.

Addition #1

The electromagnetic disturbance, which is spread over the electromagnetic spectrum, generates complex fablic of space. Parallelling this, the consciousness (disturbance in awareness), which is spread over a similar spectrum, generates complex fabric of awareness.

“Awareness-Space” and “Consciousness-Electromagnetism” is the same reality just spread over the Abstraction scale.

This experiment proves in my mind that space is not a set of dimensionless mathematical points, and that there is a dimension to a location in space. In other words. what appears as two different locations from the “dimensionless point perspective” can actually be the same location.

The location in space is elastic. It has converged toward a point when we consider the nucleus of an atom, but it is in the process of converging towards a point when we consider the electron. Space is a pointless continuum when we consider electromagnetic waves. We incorrectly assume this continuum to be a set of mathematical points.

We base Mathematics on the postulate that everything is discrete. Therefore we look at the real space as a set of points. This is an error.

We need a new mathematics based on the postulate of continuum where mathematical points can have a “dimensional density.” Imagine using a magnifying glass to focus the image of the sun on a paper. If we focus the image perfectly to a point it can burn a hole through the paper. This is like the space converged to a point. But when it is not focused, the image of the sun is out of focus and diffused over a region. This is like a point with a dimension. It is space that is moving away from being a “set of points” toward becoming a continuum.

Disturbance, Inertia, Matter and Gravity

To have the awareness of velocity there should be at least two objects. In a one dimensional space the two objects will either be approaching each other or moving away from each other. If the objects have mass then there will also be gravitational attraction between them, and therefore, there will be acceleration. There will be velocity but it will not be constant.

Let’s consider a 3D-space, which is made up of at least four non-planar objects with mass. The objects are moving in this space. There has to be gravitational attraction among them. They all will be accelerating one way or another, if not linearly then in terms of changing direction. There shall always be acceleration no matter how imperceptible it is. It seems that constant velocity will be a rare phenomenon in this universe.

We observe that as long as objects have mass they can never be free of acceleration. That means there is always some force acting on an object in this universe. If it is not direct push or pull it will be some sort of reaction due to gravitational force, friction, etc.

Mass is a form of inertia that generates gravitational force. And the force generates acceleration. There is no constant velocity.

Inertia, force and acceleration seem to be different stages of the same thing.

Constant velocity may exist only for inertia-less particle. A photon is massless and it may come closest to being inertia-less depending on its frequency.

“Inertia-less-ness” acquires inertia by acquiring frequency. This gives us a photon. As the photon increases in frequency, its inertia increases also. This is evidenced by light bending near heavy cosmic objects.

The frequency is basically a disturbance. When frequency of the photon reaches the region of gamma rays, the photon becomes unstable under the influence of its own inertia. The high frequency photon, instead of propagating linearly, seems to converge on itself when shocked in some way.

An electron has a “mass” that corresponds to the frequency of gamma rays per Einstein equations: E = mc^2 = hf. An electron may be described as the stable state resulting from the shocked convergence of gamma photons. The surface of the electron shall consist of something similar to a shock wave. The frequency within an electron is likely to increase along its radius. The maximum frequency shall appear at the center of the electron.

Mass may be a phenomenon resulting from shocked convergence of high frequency photons.

The next stable particle that we get after an electron is a hydrogen atom. Here a lot more has converged because of some cosmic reaction. The outer shell is still like an electron, but in addition, there is an inner solid core. The high frequency center seems to have undergone another shocked convergence. The surface of the nucleus shall also consist of something similar to a shock wave.

A hydrogen atom is very likely to be a single particle that breaks into an electron and a proton during atomic reactions. There is a succession of stable particles beyond the hydrogen atom that gives us the periodic table. They happen to have near integral multiples of the atomic mass of the hydrogen atom. They also break into electrons, protons, and other particles during atomic reactions.

We assume that these integer values of atomic mass mean that a number of electrons, protons and other particles exist within an atom, but that may not necessarily be the case. Each atom could just be a single particle, and the integral values may appear due to resonances observed due to wave mechanics.

Once we have “mass” in the nucleus, we have particles of large inertia. And so we have matter, material objects, gravity, force and acceleration, which we are most familiar with.

Inertia (frequency and mass), force (gravity) and acceleration are simply the different stages of cosmic disturbance.

This is a simple model of how the universe logically may be at its core.

Some Thoughts

Space deals with relationships; and time deals with the history of those relationships.

An inconsistency may be spotted in space, but to resolve it we need to go into the dimension of time.

Static relationships are determined by relative positions and directions in space. Dynamic relationships have the additional dimension of time.

In geometrical space, positions are represented by points, and directions by solid angles. A solid angle further resolves into two planar angles in two different dimensions.

In physical space, positions are represented by objects, and the directions by relative positions. If there are no objects, the positions are determined by mental imagery.

An object is defined by its inertia expressed as mass. Inertia is a measure of how much structure is there. The structure appears by its resistance to change.

An object cruising at constant velocity cannot be differentiated from an object at rest. There is zero acceleration. Therefore, its actual motion is also zero.

Motion arises only with acceleration, as when force is applied, or during interactions among objects.

The reference point for an object shall be zero inertia and zero acceleration.

When inertia is zero then there is no resistance to work against, and no acceleration is possible. An object with zero rest mass shall always remain in a state of zero acceleration or constant velocity. This is the case with light.

An object with non-zero rest mass has non-zero inertia, and it can be accelerated by applying force to it.

When there is an object with mass M1 in space all by itself, and there is no second mass and no distance either, then the force due to gravity would be undefined.

The moment an object of mass M2 appears in space, the distance d between the two objects also gets defined, and a force and acceleration also appear.
