The fundamental property of substance is consistency—a degree of density, firmness, viscosity, etc. We observe that the consistency of the substance increases in the order: thought, energy and matter.

Definition of CONSISTENCY

Consistency is the measure of the substantiality of substance. The higher is the substantiality the greater is the consistency. 

Matter has the highest consistency, which is called its “mass.” The mass of matter is defined by its extreme compactness. The mass within the atom of matter has a certain range. It decreases as the distance from the center of the atom increases. The nucleus of the atom has a unit mass that is 1836 times the unit mass of the surrounding electronic region. 

From matter to energy, the consistency suddenly drops to a much lower range by many orders of magnitude. The consistency of energy is determined by its frequency, which is found to be related to the mass of matter. Frequency comes from the radiating nature of the electromagnetic energy.  It has  a certain range within the electromagnetic spectrum. The frequency of the gamma rays at the top of the spectrum is 10¹² times the frequency of the radio waves at the bottom of the spectrum.

From energy to thought, the consistency is expected to drop once again to a much lower range by many orders of magnitude. Not much is known about the consistency of thought. The only data we have about a spectrum of thought is from the Tone Scale described in Scientology by Hubbard. At one end of this scale is the tone of “apathy” that is felt as being very thick, heavy and slow. At the other end is the tone of “serenity” that is so thin, light and rapid that it is barely felt.

The consistency increases continually from thought to energy to matter. This may be seen as the condensation of substance.

Notes

Consistency means “a degree of density, firmness, viscosity, etc.” But this word is also used in the sense of “a lack of contradiction.” Consistency is a property of the substance of the universe all across the board.

The substance of the universe consists of thought, energy and matter. The spectrum of substance may be visualized as a giant rotating vortex. The center of this vertex consists of the range of matter. The middle part consists of much larger range of energy. And, the outer periphery consists of still larger range of thought.

According to this visualization, as condensation occurs from thought to energy to matter, the consistency of substance increases and its space contracts. The matter may be visualized as floating within a sea of energy. The energy may be visualized as floating within a sea of thought.

Being consistent, all parts of this vortex of substance are continually interchanging with each other. For example, energy is continually being absorbed and emitted by the atom as electrons shift in their orbits. Similarly, thought is continually being absorbed and emitted within a biological system, such as, the human body, as movement occurs.
