This paper presents Section 2 from the book SCIENTOLOGY 8-8008 by L. RON HUBBARD. The contents are from the original publication of this book by The Church of Scientology (1952).
This section presents Scientology Factors (in black). Each Scientology Factor is followed by a KHTH Factor (in color). The KHTK Factor is derived by looking at the Scientology Factor from a Buddhist viewpoint.

The Factors
(Summation of the considerations and examinations of the human spirit and the material universe completed between A.D. 1923 and 1953.)
These comments are meant to bring alignment between Scientology and Buddhism.
.
FACTOR #1. Before the beginning was a Cause and the entire purpose of the Cause was the creation of effect.
KHTK FACTOR #1. The universe is simply there. Its beginning, or basis, cannot be ascertained with certainty. So we start with the unbiased basis of emptiness.
FACTOR #2. In the beginning and forever is the decision and the decision is TO BE.
KHTK FACTOR #2.The universe is evolving but its beingness is always consistent, harmonious and continuous.
FACTOR #3. The first action of beingness is to assume a viewpoint.
KHTK FACTOR #3. The natural aspect of this beingness is its viewpoint. The universal viewpoint sees the beingness, or the universe, as it is.
FACTOR #4. The second action of beingness is to extend from the viewpoint, points to view, which are dimension points.
KHTK FACTOR #4.The universe is a matrix of infinite dimensions. Each dimension contains infinity of dimensions points to view.
FACTOR #5. Thus there is space created, for the definition of space is: viewpoint of dimension. And the purpose of a dimension point is space and a point of view.
KHTK FACTOR #5. Space defines the varying extent of dimension points. Time defines their varying duration. Thus comes about the overview of all the characteristics of dimension points.
FACTOR #6. The action of a dimension point is reaching and withdrawing.
KHTK FACTOR #6. As the viewpoint narrows, the dimension points disappear generating confusion, doubts and perplexities; but these things resolve as the viewpoint broadens.
FACTOR #7. And from the viewpoint to the dimension points there are connection and interchange. Thus new dimension points are made. Thus there is communication.
KHTK FACTOR #7. As viewpoint broadens new dimension points are discovered that simplify the overall view. Other viewpoints are thus included. This brings about real communication.
FACTOR #8. And thus there is light.
KHTK FACTOR #8. And thus there is perception, understanding, and enlightenment.
FACTOR #9. And thus there is energy.
KHTK FACTOR #9. And thus there is purposeful activity.
FACTOR #10. And thus there is life.
KHTK FACTOR #10. And thus life evolves.
FACTOR #11. But there are other viewpoints and these viewpoints out-thrust points to view. And there comes about an interchange amongst viewpoints; but the interchange is never otherwise than in terms of exchanging dimension points.
KHTK FACTOR #11. The natural viewpoint is the universal viewpoint. As it narrows there comes about a multiplicity of subjective viewpoints. These viewpoints hold their own opinions of dimension points, which they then interchange.
FACTOR #12. The dimension point can be moved by the viewpoint, for the viewpoint, in addition to creative ability and consideration, possesses volition and potential independence of action; and the viewpoint, viewing dimension points, can change in relation to its own or other dimension points or viewpoints. Thus comes about all the fundamentals there are to motion.
KHTK FACTOR #12. The viewpoints can rearrange their opinions, or change their whole perspective of looking at dimension points. This brings about motion. But the real motion comes about as the viewpoint evolves objectively toward the universal viewpoint.
FACTOR #13. The dimension points are each and every one, whether large or small, solid. And they are solid solely because the viewpoints say they are solid.
KHTK FACTOR #13. The dimension points, each and every one, whether large or small, form awareness, thoughts, force and solidity of matter. But they may be viewed differently depending on the subjectivity of the viewpoint.
FACTOR #14. Many dimension points combine into larger gases, fluids or solids. Thus there is matter. But the most valued point is admiration, and admiration is so strong its absence alone permits persistence.
KHTK FACTOR #14. The dimension points combine to generate more complex forms. But these forms are pure to the degree they are viewed as they are. This is admiration. Lack of admiration results in persistence of impurity.
FACTOR #15. The dimension point can be different from other dimension points and thus can possess an individual quality. And many dimension points can possess a similar quality, and others can possess a similar quality unto themselves. Thus comes about the quality of classes of matter.
KHTK FACTOR #15. All dimension points are unique in themselves, but there are similarities enough to arrange them into classes. At a finer level there is underlying continuity, harmony and consistency enough to arrange them into a finely connected matrix.
FACTOR #16. The viewpoint can combine dimension points into forms and the forms can be simple or complex and can be at different distances from the viewpoints and so there can be combinations of form. And the forms are capable of motion and the viewpoints are capable of motion and so there can be motion of forms.
KHTK FACTOR #16. The dimension points combine into more complex forms that move in a continuous, harmonious and consistent fashion. Their synonymity with the universal viewpoint makes it self-animation. But lesser viewpoints see it as a motion external to them.
FACTOR #17. And the opinion of the viewpoint regulates the consideration of the forms, their stillness or their motion, and these considerations consist of assignment of beauty or ugliness to the forms and these considerations alone are art.
KHTK FACTOR #17. The forms have evolved from minerals to plants to animals to humans. Therein lies the art, but human viewpoints simply add their colorful considerations of beauty and ugliness to it.
FACTOR #18. It is the opinion of the viewpoints that some of these forms should endure. Thus there is survival.
KHTK FACTOR #18. The human viewpoint sees turbulence among these forms and it endeavors to settle it through prayer, meditation, art, and science. Thus there is evolution.
FACTOR #19. And the viewpoint can never perish; but the form can perish.
KHTK FACTOR #19. Neither the viewpoint, nor the dimension points with their forms, perish completely. But they change over a very wide range from universally objective to completely subjective.
FACTOR #20. And the many viewpoints, interacting, become dependent upon one another’s forms and do not choose to distinguish completely the ownership of dimension points and so comes about a dependency upon the dimension points and upon the other viewpoints.
KHTK FACTOR #20. And many viewpoints, interacting, come to agree on subjective opinions, prejudices and beliefs. And so, they become dependent on agreements thus generated.
FACTOR #21. From this comes a consistency of viewpoint of the interaction of dimension points and this, regulated, is TIME.
KHTK FACTOR #21. TIME is regulated by continuous evolution. When a set of agreements regulates the viewpoints, time acquires a fixed characteristic.
FACTOR #22. And there are universes.
KHTK FACTOR #22. There are as many “universes” as there are subjective viewpoints; but there is only one objective universe.
FACTOR #23. The universes, then, are three in number: the universe created by one viewpoint, the universe created by every other viewpoint, the universe created by the mutual action of viewpoints which is agreed to be upheld—the physical universe.
KHTK FACTOR #23. The physical and spiritual universes are the result of agreements among subjective opinions. On the other hand, the clarity of observations converges on an objective universe standing alone.
FACTOR #24. And the viewpoints are never seen. And the viewpoints consider more and more that the dimension points are valuable. And the viewpoints try to become the anchor points and forget that they can create more points and space and forms. Thus comes about scarcity. And the dimension points can perish and so the viewpoints assume that they, too, can perish.
KHTK FACTOR #24. The viewpoint is defined by its ability to perceive the dimension points. Absence of clarity leads to dependence on fixed beliefs. Letting go of such beliefs may feel like the end of oneself.
FACTOR #25. Thus comes about death.
KHTK FACTOR #25. Thus, with complete fixation, comes about death.
FACTOR #26. The manifestations of pleasure and pain, of thought, emotion and effort, of thinking, of sensation, of affinity, reality, communication, of behaviour and being are thus derived and the riddles of our universe are apparently contained and answered herein.
KHTK FACTOR #26. All thoughts, emotion and effort exist in what you view. Thinking and sensing, pleasure and pain, affinity, reality and communication, appear and disappear in that view. Riddles form and resolve in it. None of these manifestations are permanent.
FACTOR #27. There is beingness, but Man believes there is only becomingness.
KHTK FACTOR #27. The ultimate beingness is attained by moving beyond the subjective viewpoint attached to the human body and arriving at the objectivity of the universal viewpoint.
FACTOR #28. The resolution of any problem posed hereby is the establishment of viewpoints and dimension points, the betterment of condition and concourse amongst dimension points, and, thereby, viewpoints, and the remedy of abundance or scarcity in all things, pleasant or ugly, by the rehabilitation of the ability of the viewpoint to assume points of view, and create and uncreate, neglect, start, change and stop dimension points of any kind at the determinism of the viewpoint. Certainty in all three universes must be regained, for certainty, not data, is knowledge.
KHTK FACTOR #28. Any resolution requires the broadening of the viewpoint toward the universal objectivity of seeing things as they are. It is establishing the continuity, harmony and consistency among the dimension points. This is accomplished by examining the fixations and letting them unwind naturally.
FACTOR #29. In the opinion of the viewpoint, any beingness, any thing, is better than no thing, any effect is better than no effect, any universe better than no universe, any particle better than no particle, but the particle of admiration is best of all.
KHTK FACTOR #29. For the viewpoint to be there, beingness must also be there. Thus, there must always be some cause, effect, universe, etc. The most favored of these is admiration, which is the appreciation of things as they are.
FACTOR #30. And above these things there might be speculation only. And below these things there is the playing of the game. But these things which are written here Man can experience and know. And some may care to teach these things and some may care to use them to assist those in distress and some may desire to employ them to make individuals and organizations more able and so give to Earth a culture of which we can be proud.
KHTK FACTOR #30. This revision of Hubbard’s pioneering work is an attempt to make it consistent with the fundamentals of Vedas and Buddha’s work. Let’s hope that it inspires new powerful techniques for the resolution of the human condition.

FINAL COMMENTS
Hubbard’s philosophy is based on the concept of CAUSE, which is same as the Western concept of God. Buddhism is based on the concept of EMPTINESS, which is same as the Vedic concept of Brahma. This brings up a contradiction that needs to be resolved.
The goal of Scientology is to gain super abilities for the self in this world. The goal of Buddhism, however, is Nirvana, which is to move beyond one’s worldly self to become one with the universal self. Basically, this is attaining the universal viewpoint of objectivity.
Hubbard misunderstood Nirvana to mean “merging with the MEST universe”, which, in other words, means “to become part of a vast machinery”. But this is not what Nirvana is.
Nirvana is the attaining of objectivity of the universal viewpoint so that one may contribute to the natural evolution in a continuous, harmonious and consistent manner.
