I would like to have an honest discussion on this subject. No doubt America was great once. What has happened to that greatness?

Thank you, Nehru, for sending this video to me. It is an honest look.

He spends the first 2:10 blasting the girl’s assumption, then the final 1:18 replacing those assumptions with more assumptions of his own.
It is good to take a careful look at our egos and in my opinion it is good to reduce those egos whether personal, familial, local, national, or yes, even as a species.

So, what does it look like without assumptions?

We seem to want to assert being right, our strength, our superiority, our number one-ness regardless if that matches with reality or even a well-defined standard. Possibly we should define what a “greatest country” would be if there were such a thing? Not only as America, but humans that I know want to do this. Is it our Nature or is this a result of our Culture?

Scientology is just a reflection of that cultural impulse.

Yes, Vinay, many-many assumptions resounding around the world are reflections of this cultural impulse. But I am wondering if this cultural impulse is truly a product of our DNA? The “might making right” attitude seems to permeate every culture ever come and gone through history. And the short duration value of cultures on earth gives me pause. There do not seem to be any extant cultures surviving on earth as they seem to eat and then in turn are eaten. The excrement of these cultures seem to simply be paved over and the next conqueror builds upon the bones of the old culture. The Byzantines and a few others hung around in various forms for a thousand years. This seems to be the longest. Now in the information age, societies may come and go so quickly that they never form any established culture of any duration.

The Vedic culture is the oldest, and it can still be found.

Yes, and sensible little pockets of Christians, etc., can still be found practicing “love thy neighbor” but that is not the scale of which we are talking is it? You surely aren’t holding out modern India as resulting from Vedic principles are you? I do not see much mindfulness being practiced in India the country as a whole.

Modern India is like everywhere else… a mixture of influences.

Maybe the greatest country is like an OT who can force others in submission to it.

The winners of force conflicts get to write the history and define themselves as superior. If they have a fair and equitable government then so much the better, but these two are separate.

To me intelligent solutions require minimum of force.

Politics is a complicated game of subterfuge where everyone is lying or at least holding their cards close and in their world of negotiating, it seems that the first one to speak “loses.”
Yesterday the US and Russia “came to an agreement” about Syria’s chemical weapons through “Op Ed” diplomacy. People are dying in this civil war by the tens of thousands while diplomats and politicians concern themselves with one-upmanship and minutia.

Politics can be sane.

This was Hubbard’s premise that government, especially democratic government could only be sane in when controlled by “Clears.” I understand that notion but have never seen an example of it. Hubbard’s favorite form of government was “benign monarchy.” Presumably under the condition that he were the monarch.
I like your optimism that government could be sane, but I do not necessarily believe it.

Ha ha! I am being mathematical and not necessarily optimistic. As larger section of populace starts becoming sane than it follows that the government made up of people from that populace will start to behave sanely too.

Agreed but is your assumption that mankind is becoming saner warranted?
I think we can apply what we are learning about motion to general sanity of the population.

I am not assuming anything. Mankind is what it is. It is my goal to work out ways for people to be mindful.
As people become mindful, they will also become sane.
As people become saner, society will become saner.
As society becomes saner, governments will become saner.
It is a long haul from where we are to where I want to go. Whether we’ll get there or not, I have no idea.

“THE WORLD WITHOUT US” is a 2008 full length movie treating what would happen if the United States withdrew from the hundreds of foreign presences that it maintains. I tried to find it on YouTube but found this trailer. It is available for free watching “Netflix” but I’m not sure where else. It is 1-1/2 hours long and well worth a watch however you can find it. The subject is not a simple one.

America is a mixture of good and bad, the same way that Scientology is. One needs to sort out good from bad by being mindful. There is enough data available on the Internet to do such a sort out.
If there is something striking that you found in this movie (there must be otherwise you wouldn’t be mentioning it) then please mention it here. I wan’t to know what YOU found to be truthful.
