This is a brief presentation of an interview where the Dalai Lama discusses how he would change his beliefs because of scientific data.

In my view, Buddhism is very scientific to start with.

Dalai Lama is a cool character. The secular interviewer is passive-aggressive.
Why are you labeling Buddhism scientific?

I always thought Buddhism was scientific on the basis of the consistency of its observations. That is the criteria I apply for something being scientific.

I found the Dalai Lhama’s answers to possibly leading questions very interesting. From my own knowledge of Buddhism, it would appear that more basic than being scientific, Buddhism is actually the heart of the open mind. Science is what is currently being used to study reality, thus his scientificness is related to his being realistic. I believe basically he is trying to tell us to get into reality, and see if we can wrap our heads around it better. Not follow lies or illusions, but get into more depth. To me this is a good idea, because one of the things I’ve noticed about modern life that has become different is it’s lack of depth, its superficiality. So I can appreciate his viewpoint because of the little interview.

Kind of agree. Having spent most of my adult life thinking that one needed an electronic device to “look” very well into one’s own universe, and now having come full circle to simply taking more responsibility for my own thoughts, I think maybe people do and always have “made it” onward and upward on their own volition.
