Subject Clearing Body (old)

Processing is the application of a sequence of steps to bring about an improvement in a person’s condition. In Subject Clearing, the processes are obtained from the study of Hinduism, Buddhism and Scientology.

In Subject Clearing, you can always go back to an earlier process and run it again.

.

Process

The fifth process in Subject Clearing is to explore the subject of the body. The general rule of processing is that one explores whatever one’s attention has been fixed on. The first general area of fixed attention is the body.

Scientology tries to handle the fixed attention on the body by inducing the experience of exteriorization (out of body experience). Scientology theorizes that a person can be brought into a condition where he operates permanently in a state of exteriorization. However, that is just a theory.

We know from Hindu and Buddhist practices that a person can be brought into a condition where he operates permanently in a state of mental detachment, or non-fixation, with respect to the body. In this state a person can bear all physical sufferings easily.

The following Subject Clearing process helps a person become aware of all his considerations regarding the body with possible discovery and reduction of fixations on the body.

The Body Process

Note: This process may be tailored to a body part, such as, an arm or a leg. It may also be tailored to an area of the body, which has pain or injury, such as, “area of the back where you had surgery.”

Contemplative Question

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

Subject Clearing involves contemplating over a subject in a meditative mode. It is looking at a subject more closely by means of a well thought out question. The person contemplates on this question without deviating from it.

Suppose the contemplative question is “Remember something.” At first, a flood of memories may come up. But, as you focus on this question repetitively, these memories may start to sort themselves out individually, and become more detailed and accurate. You do this until you feel comfortable about remembering, and you get a good idea of how “remembering” works.

Go ahead and contemplate on this question repetitively: “Remember something.”

Contemplative question works best, when you give it to yourself each time, newly as if it has just occurred to you. This helps bring up the answer most rapidly. Practice this approach until no unique answers are coming up, and you feel relaxed and satisfied.

Apply this approach with the following question: “Recall a time.”

You contemplate over a question with the discipline of the 12 aspects of mindfulness. This may appear cumbersome at first as you do it consciously. But as you practice it you will find that this discipline will become your second nature, and you are applying all the 12 aspects without thinking.

Practice the discipline with the following contemplative question: “Recall a communication.”

In such focused contemplation one looks at the subject closer and closer and the answers come up in bits and pieces until one realizes what is truly there.

The Body Process (old)

Please refer to Subject Clearing Viewpoint.

An interesting Subject Clearing process might be as follows:

“Tell me about the body.”

The purpose of this process is to become aware of any fixations on the body and resolve them by looking at them more closely.

This command may be extended by using relevant adjectives as appropriate, as follows.

“Tell me what is good about the body.”
“Tell me what is bad about the body.”
“Tell me what is wonderful about the body.”
“Tell me what is ugly about the body.”

“Tell me what is charming about the body.”
“Tell me what is strange about the body.”
“Tell me what is lovely about the body.”
“Tell me what is useful about the body.”
“Tell me what is a burden about the body.”
“Tell me what is peculiar about the body.”
And so on.

The basic idea is to put all your considerations about the body out there, until nothing more is coming up.

Maintain The 12 Aspects of Mindfulness as your discipline. What is there is there. Be totally honest in recognizing your considerations.

This process may be supported by going to places, such as, a mall or shopping area, where there are a lot of people and activity. Observe people and their bodies to jog your considerations. Note: You will never find a person without a body (joke).

Considerations about the body may seem to be inexhaustible. This process may be continued for as long as needed over many sessions.

You can do this process by yourself. You may keep notes of anything that comes up while running this process.

Have fun!

Thetan: An Ego Trap

Ego, Painting by Lika Makaridze | Artmajeur

Reference: Course on Subject Clearing

Individuality is something natural. There is nothing wrong with individuality. But there is everything wrong with fixation on individuality because such a fixation is opposed to the Oneness of reality.

So long as a person is fixated on individuality he can never be at peace.

So long as majority of people are fixated on their individualities there can never be peace in a society, country, or the world.

.

Scientology

Scientology is the latest religion that may have peaked now, but it was expanding quite rapidly at one time. Its draw was that it could rapidly free a person from past impressions in his mind that were limiting his potential. It promised to restore a person to his full potential.

Scientology consists of many interesting processes that help free a person from unwanted conditions, and improve his confidence in managing his life. But in doing so it also traps the person in getting more fixated on his individuality.

.

The Thetan

Some of these traps that we find in Scientology are based on ideas that have existed prominently in the Western Culture.

One such idea is that of a world, which is basically material, is created by God, who is entirely spiritual. This idea gives superiority to the spiritual domain over the material domain. Scientology incorporates this idea into a THETA-MEST Theory. In this theory, MEST represents the physical universe, and THETA represents all the capabilities of the spirit. MEST is considered to be produced by THETA.

In humans, THETA appears as the “individuality” called THETAN, and MEST appears as the physical body. A person is actually the THETAN, who can be separated from his physical body. The person, as THETAN, can act independently of the physical body, and does not really need the physical body to operate. The achievement of this state of OPERATING THETAN is the goal of all Scientology processing.

The THETAN is immortal; therefore, a person, as an OPERATING THETAN, can operate as the same individual forever.

.

Why is Thetan a Trap?

A person enters Scientology through its introductory services. Immediately, he is taught that he is an immortal thetan, and not his body. He can, through auditing, separate himself from the body, and live in that state for ever. Since he does not need the body to operate in this universe, he can regard it as disposable. The person starts to see THETAN as the sum total of his individuality. Now he has become a Scientologist.

The feeling of being immortal greatly boosts a person’s ego. He is now ready to build up on that ego with confidence.

The ego is his current sense of individuality. In Scientology, he has a free pass to build up on that ego. In fact, Scientology helps him do just that.

The simple truth is that the thetan is not immortal, and that the person cannot operate in this universe without a body. A Scientologist is trapped in the lie of an immortal thetan. He ends up justifying to himself how he is an immortal and indestructible thetan.

.

Subject Clearing Thetan

Thetan is the mathematical symbol assigned to individuality. The individuality is formed out of postulates. It can change as the postulates change. Therefore, an individuality can die and another individuality can emerge in its place. Thetan is not immortal since the individuality is not immortal.

When a person is trying to improve, he is working with his considerations. These considerations have their basis in the postulates that are part of his makeup. As he starts to clear up the anomalies in his consideration, he is led straight back to his postulates. These postulates are very fundamental to him. The criterion of Oneness really becomes important at this point.

The postulates that are part of his makeup, must be continuous, consistent and harmonious according to the Principle of Oneness. He has to trust his guts to discover the anomalies among these postulates and resolve them. He cannot blithely go by the E-meter reads without understanding what is going on.

Any process that an individual allows to be run on himself, he must do so with full awareness of what is stated here.

Logic in 8th Grade

This kind of two-valued logic has always confused me, but it is good to know the following definitions. Hopefully, this will help you get better grades in school.

Tne Contrapositive is converse of the inverse statement.
