Reference: The Axioms

In the Scientology Axioms, written by L. Ron Hubbard in 1954, we have a condensation and a recapitulation of all the earlier Axioms and Logics, boiled down to a more practical, more fundamental and more forthright list. They compare best, perhaps, to the axioms of geometry; they are certainly as self–evident as that. But the axioms of geometry are really much cruder than the Scientology Axioms, since geometry proves itself by itself and the Axioms of Scientology prove themselves by all of life.

This paper presents Scientology Axioms 41 – 50 and the corresponding KHTK versions.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 41: That into which alter–isness is introduced becomes a problem.

Any time you ALTER-IS something you add another wrinkle to IS-NESS. This may generate or worsen a problem. The universe is not a problem, but its altered view is. We postulate that it was created. We don’t know if that postulate is correct.

When we say that the universe is persisting, it is actually our view of the universe that is persisting. It comes down to examining our considerations about the universe for ALTER-IS. It is the ALTER-IS we are not aware of, which causes a problem.

KHTK AXIOM 41: That into which alter-is-ness is introduced becomes a problem.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 42: MEST (matter, energy, space and time) persists because it is a problem.

It is a problem because it contains Alter-is-ness.

MEST is a problem because it is an altered view of the universe. Scientology postulates that MEST (physical) universe produced by the Theta universe. This could be an ALTER-IS. KHTK, therefore, postulates that Theta-MEST is a single universe.

The physicist has been focusing only the physical aspect of the universe. He has been ignoring the innate impulse that underlies energy. The atom bomb simply releases this impulse in an uncontrolled, destructive manner. The same impulse is better controlled in the computer technology.

KHTK AXIOM 42: MEST (matter, energy, space, time) persists because its Theta aspect is being ignored.

We see some Theta aspect of MEST in computer technology.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 43: Time is the primary source of untruth.

Time states the untruth of consecutive considerations.

Time denotes duration of energy. This duration increases as the energy condenses from thought to matter. As a result, less condensed energy appears to be in motion compared to more condensed energy. We tend to focus on the duration associated with matter (condensed energy) as the characteristic of time.

It seems that as energy gets more condensed it becomes “interesting”. A less condensed energy is “interested”. When a person becomes more “interesting” he has become more condensed in his considerations. This leads to fixations. The person then becomes a problem.

Consecutive moments appear because of the play of energy of different condensations. A shock in time is a sudden shift in the gradient of energy. With fame, a person may shift suddenly from being interested to becoming interesting. This could act as a shock.

KHTK AXIOM 43: Condensation into fixation is the primary source of untruth.

Fixation condenses consecutive considerations stating them as untruth.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 44: Theta, the static, has no location in matter, energy, space or time, but is capable of consideration.

Static is the potential state of the Theta-MEST spectrum. Theta is thought energy part of the spectrum. It has vibration. It is not the same thing as Static. This conflation between Theta and Static is the key error in the hypothesis of Hubbard.

Time is the duration of energy. It is extremely small for thought energy. Considerations do not persist unless they are anomalous with the universe and are waiting to be resolved. A Thetan is the sum total of persisting considerations.

This persistence (fixation) becomes a problem when it is not resolved. A persisting condition of the thetan is fixation on the body. The only way not to be “inside the body” is simply not to have any attention on the body.

KHTK AXIOM 44: Theta is the thought energy aspect of the Theta-MEST spectrum that constitutes considerations.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 45: Theta can consider itself to be placed, at which moment it becomes placed, and to that degree a problem.

When Theta is not Static, it is manifesting itself. In other words, its innate impulses are firing away. A thetan can have a problem only when it gets fixated and cannot resolve that fixation. He is then being more interesting than interested.

But if he can be fixated and un-fixated at will then there is no problem. He may be somewhat of a problem only during the period he is fixated.

KHTK AXIOM 45: Theta can consider itself to be fixated, at which moment it becomes fixated, and to that degree a problem.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 46: Theta can become a problem by its considerations, but then becomes MEST.

A problem is to some degree MEST. MEST is a problem.

When Theta is kinetic then, of course, it is energy of very low frequency, and there is corresponding space and time. But there is no matter.

As energy condenses, it starts to acquire properties that make it observable in terms of interactions. That makes it “interesting”. And that which is observing is the un-condensed energy. So, that thought energy is being “interested”.

Un-condensed energy can flow around very rapidly but condensed energy cannot flow or move that fast. That means problem is characterized by lack of motion and flexibility.

KHTK AXIOM 46: Theta becomes a problem by losing its motion and flexibility due to condensation.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 47: Theta can resolve problems.

Resolution of problem means reversing the process of condensation. It is lessening the rate of vibration. It is calming down. It is becoming less fixated and more flexible. That process is occurring in the field of computers and robotics; but it is very much in its infancy.

KHTK AXIOM 47: Theta can resolve problems.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 48: Life is a game wherein theta as the static solves the problems of theta as mest.

“Theta as static” is the un-condensed theta. “Theta as MEST” is condensed theta. All theta is connected. The un-condensed theta can de-condense the condensed theta. This is what happens when we help each other.

Theta gets more condensed by being interesting and focused on itself. This is called interiorization. It de-condenses by being interested and focused on others. This is called exteriorization.

KHTK AXIOM 48: Life is a game wherein Theta as un-condensed substance solves the problems of Theta as condensed substance.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 49: To solve any problem it is only necessary to become theta, the solver, rather than theta, the problem.

The SOP 8C works by getting a person to looking at the environment and getting interested in others rather than have attention on oneself and be interesting.

The key point is extroversion. One may even look at oneself from an extroverted viewpoint. He can do that by viewing oneself as a problem in the context of the present time environment and by not getting sucked into the mind in its past.

KHTK AXIOM 49: To solve any problem it is only necessary to become extroverted in one’s attention rather than introverted.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 50: Theta as MEST must contain considerations which are lies.

MEST is the energy that is persisting because it is condensed and focused on itself. This is the situation with the body. Theta is activating the body through considerations, but these considerations come and go quickly. None of them persist.

But fixations persist. A person who is interiorized has his attention fixed on his body and on the facsimiles in his mind. SOP 8C is simply pulling the person’s attention away from himself and putting it on the environment. As you pull the attention away, these facsimiles show up.

What is actually being objected to are these fixations that are persisting. You may call them lies because they vanish once recognized. The anomaly is persisting in the present. Whatever lie that brought that anomaly is also persisting in the present. That lie brought about a change from the opposite condition.

By repeatedly postulating the original condition we can run out the lie, and the anomaly that has been persisting.

KHTK AXIOM 50: Theta as MEST must contain fixations which are lies.

We are looking at the subject of truth and its use in auditing of the mind and in subject clearing. If you are interested in truth, you must attain a viewpoint from which you can see things as they are. A lie is the filter made up of our considerations that we interpose.

The ultimate truth is seeing things as they are without interposing our considerations.

In Scientology, Hubbard is assuming that if we get rid of all our filters (considerations), there would be nothing left to see. Everything will reduce to a Static. In other words, anything that could be considered (including the observer) will simply reduce to a potential state.

Hubbard assumes all that is there to see are our considerations.

But that is just a theoretical speculation. There is a universe out there. We postulate and devise hypothesis to explain that universe. Our understanding of the universe is as good as our postulates and the theories. Religions have always proposed different postulates, hypotheses and theories to explain the universe.

According to the KHTK theory, the universe is made of substance that operates on its own impulse. It has a large spectrum from thought to matter. Time comes about due to the duration property of that substance. This duration increases as the substance condenses from thought to matter.

A postulate is a thought substance that hardly has a duration. It does not persist if it duplicates the universe, but if it does not duplicate, it persists as an idea to be worked upon.

If two postulates deny each other, we may not know which postulate is the first and which is the second, but both are persisting as part of an anomaly in our understanding, which does not duplicate the universe. There is some assumption flagged by that anomaly. We have taken that assumption for granted. It is an ALTER-IS-NESS or NOT-IS-NESS of some aspect of this universe. We discover it by looking closely at that anomaly. And when we discover it, the misunderstanding vanishes, and we duplicate the universe better.

The understanding of the universe builds up as anomalies are resolved.

When a person cannot even see the anomalies then it becomes difficult for him to discover the assumption. He cannot AS-IS the situation. He is stuck with the assumption. This develops into stupidity and mystery. That assumption is an alteration and denial of time, place, form and event.

ALTER-IS-NESS is a form of an assumption or a lie, but it does not bring about stupidity, but NOT-IS-NESS does. A person NOT-ISES to justify some fixation, and that fixation is the cause of stupidity.

Miracles are a form of mystery and stupidity because something about the universe is not understood, but it is explained away.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 11: The considerations resulting in conditions of existence are fourfold.

(a) AS-IS-NESS is the condition of immediate creation without persistence, and is the condition of existence which exists at the moment of creation and the moment of destruction, and is different from other considerations in that it does not contain survival.

(b) ALTER-IS-NESS is the consideration which introduces change and therefore time and persistence, into an AS-IS-NESS to obtain persistency.

(c) IS-NESS is an apparency of existence brought about by the continuous alteration of an AS-IS-NESS. This is called, when agreed upon, Reality.

(d) NOT-IS-NESS is the effort to handle IS-NESS by reducing its condition through the use of force. It is an apparency and cannot entirely vanquish an IS-NESS.

Here the four conditions are the same but KHTK defines them differently.

KHTK AXIOM 11: The considerations resulting in conditions of existence are fourfold.

(a) AS-IS-NESS is seeing things as they are. It helps one resolve anomalies in IS-NESS by eliminating arbitrary considerations. It moves the viewpoint toward greater objectivity.

(b) ALTER-IS-NESS is looking through arbitrary considerations and getting an altered viewpoint of IS-NESS. As more arbitrary considerations are added, it moves the viewpoint toward greater subjectivity.

(c) IS-NESS is the view of existence as seen through one’s considerations.

(d) NOT-IS-NESS is the denial of the anomalies in IS-NESS and insisting on one’s arbitrary considerations and even enforcing them.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 12: The primary condition of any universe is that two spaces, energies, or objects must not occupy the same space. when this condition is violated (perfect duplicate) the apparency of any universe or any part there-of is nulled.

Two things cannot occupy the same space because of the force of repulsion between them. This is the case with two atoms and two conflicting ideas. “Occupying the same space” means that the repulsive forces must be sorted out.

Space arises from energy, and energy cannot vanish per the Law of Conservation, but the repulsive forces can vanish with better alignment of the energies and ideas, so they are continuous, harmonious and consistent.

A thetan and body are not two different objects. They are part of the same Theta-MEST system. But that system could be misaligned within itself, which is a condition to be sorted out. A “perfect duplicate” means bringing perfect alignment that makes all repulsive forces vanish.

KHTK AXIOM 12: A “perfect duplicate” means bringing perfect alignment among the components of a Theta-MEST system such that all repulsive forces vanish.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 13: The cycle of action of the physical universe is: create, survive (persist), destroy.

There is no such thing as the physical universe. There is only the Theta-MEST universe. Creation is the change from static to kinetic. Survival is the expansion and contraction as kinetic. Destruction is change from kinetic back to static. The overall energy is conserved. Only the form of the universe goes through the cycle of create, survive, destroy. Of course, time underlies this sequence of changes.

KHTK AXIOM 13: The cycle of action of the form of the universe is: create, survive (persist), destroy.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 14: Survival is accomplished by ALTER-IS-NESS and NOT-IS-NESS, by which is gained the persistency known as time.

Survival is already there in the kinetic phase of IS-NESS. It is persisting, so time is there. Survival improves as we practice AS-IS-NESS. It deteriorates as we practice ALTER-ISNESS and NOT-IS-NESS.

KHTK AXIOM 14: Survival is persistence of IS-NESS. It improves as we practice AS-IS-NESS. It deteriorates as we practice ALTER-ISNESS and NOT-IS-NESS.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 15: Creation is accomplished by the postulation of an AS-IS-NESS.

When you are faced with difficulties in survival you look at the situation closely. This is like viewing IS-NESS and recognizing the anomalies in it. The moment you recognize the anomaly as a discontinuity, disharmony of inconsistency, it disappears with dawning understanding. You then naturally come up with creative solutions to handle the situation. This is AS-IS-NESS. It improves one’s survival.

KHTK AXIOM 15: Survival is improved by the AS-IS-NESS of difficulties with creative solutions.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 16: Complete destruction is accomplished by the postulation of the AS-IS-NESS of any existence and the parts thereof.

Energy and its forms cannot be completely destroyed; only the misalignment of its forms may be destroyed completely through understanding, which is AS-IS-NESS. When there is complete understanding, creative solutions automatically follow, and the difficulty vanishes completely. For example, messy wars are avoided when the situation is handled through understanding and creative compromise toward the optimum survival of all parties.

KHTK AXIOM 16: Complete destruction of difficulties is accomplished by the postulation of creative solutions through AS-IS-NESS of the situation.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 17: The static, having postulated AS-IS-NESS, then practices ALTER-IS-NESS, and so achieves the apparency of IS-NESS and so obtains reality.

An IS-NESS is there always, whether good or bad. The practice of AS-IS-NESS simply resolves anomalies and improves the IS-NESS. The practice of ALTER-IS-NESS simply creates anomalies and leads to a worsening IS-NESS. This is reality.

KHTK AXIOM 17: IS-NESS appears when static changes to kinetic at the beginning of a cycle. AS-IS-NESS then improves, and ALTER-IS-NESS then worsens that IS-NESS. This is reality.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 18: The static, in practicing NOT-IS-NESS, brings about the persistence of unwanted existences, and so brings about unreality, which includes forgetfulness, unconsciousness and other undesirable states.

This axiom is accurate as long as we replace “static” by “person”. Static is a condition in which energy exists in potential state only; it does not act.

KHTK AXIOM 18: The person, in practicing NOT-IS-NESS, brings about the persistence of unwanted existences, and so brings about unreality, which includes forgetfulness, unconsciousness, and other undesirable states.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 19: Bringing the static to view as–is any condition devaluates that condition.

This was not covered by earlier Scientology axioms, but prior KHTK axioms have covered this adequately. Only change is to replace “static” by “person”.

KHTK AXIOM 19: Bringing the person to view AS-IS any condition devaluates that condition.

SCIENTOLOGY AXIOM 20: Bringing the static to create a perfect duplicate causes the vanishment of any existence or part thereof.

Definition: A perfect duplicate is an additional creation of the object, its energy and space, in its own space, in its own time using its own energy. this violates the condition that two objects must not occupy the same space, and causes the vanishment of the object.

Making a perfect duplicate seems to be a mental exercise that is left to the person to figure out. There is no clear explanation given here on how to make a perfect duplicate. When duplicating a vase, you can make a mental picture of it, but how do you create its energy and space again? How do you create them in its own space and time? How do you use its own energy?

To do that you will have to repeat the exact sequence of actions that it took to make that vase, at the location where that vase was made using the same raw materials employed to make it. If you are just doing it mentally then you must at least know the techniques used in making that vase, the raw materials used, how those raw materials were obtained, etc. It comes down to fully understanding what one is looking at. With deeper understanding one’s viewpoint changes.

Hubbard is talking about a theoretical principle, the ultimate of which is having a viewpoint that can see in depth what is there. There is complete understanding. No anomalies exist in the reality of things. Any anomalies that come up are resolved quickly. There is knowingness as the viewpoint can grasp the oneness of continuity, harmony and consistency in everything.

KHTK AXIOM 20: Bringing a person to create a perfect duplicate causes the vanishment of any and all anomalies from his understanding.

Definition: Anomalies are discontinuities, disharmonies and inconsistencies.
