Knowing How to Know

KHTK Factor # 12-1

Reference: A Course on the Factors

KHTK Factor # 12-1: Any discontinuity, inconsistency or disharmony among viewpoints and dimension points is an anomaly to be resolved.

This factor calls out any violation of the criterion of oneness to be an anomaly. Such an anomaly has the primary form of a discontinuity, inconsistency or disharmony. An anomaly must be resolved to restore the condition of oneness of what we know.

As viewpoints compare their dimension points, anomalies are spotted. This is followed by closer inspection that leads to realization. Thus, anomalies are resolved, and the postulates are expanded upon.

Following this, new viewpoints and dimension points come about; new anomalies are spotted, and the cycle repeats.

When an anomaly is resolved what we are left with is the truth! But this is a truth only until the next anomaly shows up. It is uncertain that there will come a point when everything is absolutely clear.

.

Scientology

There is no Scientology factor corresponding to the above KHTK Factor.

This factor follows naturally from the previous factor. Now that we have the criterion of oneness, any violation of that criterion would be an anomaly. The general tendency is to ignore the anomaly, or explain it away. It is quite an ability to notice an anomaly and follow it up.

One, who recognizes anomalies and follows them through to resolution, always comes up with wonderful realizations. He finds life to be very interesting and worthwhile.

.

Logic

An anomaly is any violation of the integrity of reality, such as, discontinuity (missing data), inconsistency (contradictory data), or disharmony (arbitrary data).

KHTK Factor # 1-3: And thus there is substance.

The Unknowable has no substance. But the postulates manifest, and are knowable. So, postulates are substantial enough to be sensed. In other words, postulates do have substance.

This substance is familiar to us as thoughts. Thoughts are not nothing.

Thus, the very fact of knowable postulates means that there is substance.

.

Scientology

In Scientology, the beginning of substance as postulates is not stated explicitly. Instead, substance is assumed to be part of the general concept of Effect. See KHTK Factor # 1.

.

Logic

Logically, a substance is anything substantial enough to be sensed. The idea of substance is not limited to just matter and energy.

.

KHTK Factor # 1-2

Reference: The KHTK Factors

KHTK Factor # 1-2: The postulates attempt to convert the Unknowable into Knowable.

The postulate manifests as something knowable in the background of Unknowable. It is accompanied by the awareness of what is manifested.

But only the postulate is known. The Unknowable remains unknowable in the background. The postulate attempts to replace the Unknowable.

For example, there is the omniscient God, who knows every bit of the universe because He created it. That God is the explanation for the universe that we sense. For us, the universe exists because God is there. We do not question how God came about. God is simply there.

And that is a postulate from which all reasoning follows.

.

Scientology

In Scientology, there is the Supreme Being from which everything flows. The Supreme Being is like the God. He is the ultimate Cause. See KHTK Factor # 1.

.

Logic

So, the postulates replace the Unknowable. And all we have are the knowable postulates.

Is their life after death?

The stream of life continues despite the birth and death of individual members. The human blueprint continues from one generation to the next, and to the next, maintaining a continuum through the DNA. It is only from the viewpoint of the individual that life seems to start and end.

When we study ants, we take the viewpoint of the specie of the ant, and not that of the individual ants. Individual ants born and die, but we see the specie to be thriving since the ancient times. The situation is similar when we consider mankind. The only difference is that the individual human being is quite sophisticated and valuable compared to an ant. The death of a human being is much more significant than the death of an ant.

So, we wonder if the individual human being is gone for ever when he dies, or does he persist in some way, shape or form?

What happens when an ant dies? Does it persist in some way, shape or form? From our point of view, it is the deeds of the individual ants that assure the continuation of the species. Therefore, each individual ant, after its death survives as the specie.

In the case of humans we have the Law of Karma. Karma means “action, deed.” It is the karma of the individual human beings that assure the continuation of the mankind. But, according to the law of karma, the consequence of actions are pretty specific.

Does the individual, or the being, escape these consequences after his death? A person who has committed horrible deeds throughout his life, doesn’t he get punished in some afterlife? A person who has contributed greatly to the enhancement of the society, doesn’t he get rewarded in some afterlife?

It appears to be very unjust if it were not so. There must be justice. Therefore, there must be some kind of afterlife for an individual.

This law of karma is the most significant piece of the puzzle of life after death.

We know that there are Samskars. These are unassimilated impressions that generate all kinds of aberrations and sufferings. We inherit these impressions from our ancestors through DNA, and suffer through their aberrations.

If the law of karma is valid, then we are probably our own ancestors.

So, yes, there is life after death, and we are living it here and now.

KHTK Factor # 2

Reference: The KHTK Factors

KHTK Factor # 2: The beingness is one.

Beingness is the ability to postulate and to be aware. It is expressed through every being. This is the ’Self’ of the Vedas (written with the upper case ‘S’).

A being is a package of postulated goals and behavior characteristics. It is subject to birth and death. This is the ’self’ of the Vedas (written with the lower case ’s’).

The nature of ‘Self’ is same for everybody. But the ‘self’ is characteristically different from person to person. Yet all ‘selves’ are part of one consistent whole per the principle of oneness.

We are all connected with each other at some level. None of us is absolute and by itself.

.

Scientology

Compare the above to the following factor in Scientology.

Scientology Factor # 2. In the beginning and forever is the decision and the decision is TO BE.

In Scientology, the beingness is identified with Cause. The ‘Self’ is seen as theta, and the ‘self’ is seen as thetan. The thetans are considered to be individuals and independent of each other. Each thetan is also considered to be immortal, or absolute in itself.

.

Logic

Per the principle of oneness, all thetans should be part of a consistent whole, and no individual thetan can be absolute. So, this is an anomaly in Scientology.
