Running Scientology Grade 0 with Mindfulness (Part 1)

Grade 0A
Reference: Memory Recall

At Grade 0 processing level of Scientology one deals with Communication. It removes mental barriers so one may communicate freely with anyone on any subject.

Normally these processes are run on a person by a trained scientology auditor with the help of an instrument called e-meter. But these same processes may be run by a person on himself/herself using the discipline of mindfulness.

.

These are the 12 aspects of mindfulness:

  • Observe without expecting anything, or attempting to get an answer.
  • Observe things as they are, without assuming anything.
  • If something is missing do not imagine something else in its place.
  • If something does not make sense then do not explain it away.
  • Use physical senses as well as mental sense to observe.
  • Let the mind un-stack itself.
  • Experience fully what is there.
  • Do not suppress anything.
  • Associate data freely.
  • Do not get hung up on name and form.
  • Contemplate thoughtfully.
  • Let it all be effortless.

One may develop the discipline of mindfulness by doing the exercises provided here:

The 12 Aspects of Mindfulness

Scientology Grade 0 processes are then run with the discipline of mindfulness using “un-stacking the mind” per STEP 6 OF MINDFULNESS

.

.

ARC STRAIGHTWIRE PROCESSES

Here is Part 1 of the list of Scientology Grade 0 processes. You may run them by letting the mind un-stack itself. Please note that these processes may run out quite fast. You may go over all of them from beginning to end a second and a third time.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In KHTK (mindfulness) there should be no effort applied to recalling and remembering. Any such effort would violate the principle of letting the mind un-stack itself. If you recall, or remember, and the material simply appears, then that is fine. But, when no material appears, even when you know it is there, then you also know that something else needs to be un-stacked first. That something may be handled on some other process. So, please, don’t go digging into the mind. If you feel something is there just beyond awareness then simply observe patiently as required by mindfulness. The material will show up eventually.

A communication lag (comm lag) is the time it takes to get response from the mind to a question asked.

A lack of communication lag would mean that the mind is un-stacking properly. One would then run those processes first that produce the least comm lag. That would bring about maximum gain, and it would also help reduce comm lag on later processes.

A person trained on mindfulness can easily observe the communication lag within himself. He can then identify the Grade 0 process that produces minimal comm lag. He would run that process before others.

.

At any point you may reset the mind by doing the following exercise.

Mindfulness 12: Let it be effortless

.

REMEMBER SOMETHING

“Remember something.”

Please let the details of memory appear without any effort. If the memory does not appear, then something else needs to be un-stacked first. That may happen in some other process. So, please do not go digging for some memory. Just let it be.

A KHTK version of this process could be:

“Look around and spot an existing memory, thought or idea.”

The stress is on “existing”. One should not imagine a memory, thought or idea newly.

.

RECALL A TIME

“Recall a time.”

Just notice what comes up. Do not push. If you feel something is there then simply observe patiently as required by mindfulness. The material will show up eventually.

A KHTK version of this process could be:

“Look around and spot an existing desire, expectation or speculation.”

The stress is on “existing”. One should not imagine a desire, expectation or speculation newly.

.

COMM RECALL PROCESS

“Recall a Communication.”

A KHTK version of this process could be:

“Look around and spot a communication that has been lingering in your mind.”

.

THE ONLY BASIC AFFINITY PROCESS

“What would you like to confront?”

“What would another like to confront?”

“What would others like to confront?”

“What would you like to confront in yourself?”

To confront would be to “observe mindfully.”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response). Note whatever comes up.

.

EXHAUSTION

“Recall Exhaustion.”

This is physical and mental exhaustion that is accompanied by tiredness.

.

PAST AND FUTURE EXPERIENCE

“What part of your life would you be willing to re-experience?”

“What part of the future would you be willing to experience?”

Run these questions alternately to exhaustion (no further response). The responses may uncover incidents that are difficult to confront. Just spot them accurately in time. Take whatever the mind brings up. Do not dig into the mind.

.

FORGETTING SIX WAY BRACKET

“Recall (or think of) something you wouldn’t mind…”

  1. Forgetting yourself

  2. Another person forgetting

  3. Forgetting about another

  4. Another forgetting about you

  5. Other people forgetting

  6. Another person forgetting about another person.

These commands are run as a bracket in sequence one after another.

.

CAUSE ELEMENTARY STRAIGHTWIRE

“What would it be all right for another to make forgotten?”

“What would it be all right for you to make forgotten?”

“What would it be all right for others to make forgotten?”

“What would it be alright for you to make forgotten about yourself?”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response).

.

DUPLICATION STRAIGHTWIRE

“What would another permit to have happen again?”

“What would you permit to have happen again?”

“What would others permit to have happen again?”

“What would you permit to have happen to yourself again?”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response).

 .

KNOW TO MYSTERY RECALL PROCESS

“Recall an Unconsciousness”

“Recall Waiting”

“Recall a Mystery”

“Recall Sex”

“Recall Eating” (or a variation “Recall Food”)

“Recall a Symbol”

“Recall Thinking”

“Recall an Effort”

“Recall an Emotion”

“Recall Looking”

“Recall Knowing”

“Recall Not-Knowing”

Run these questions individually until each is exhausted (no further response).

.

Very, very good! Very helpful and useful. I really got it this time about unstacking vs my impulse to analyze what come up, and “follow the rabbit down the hole.” Thank you, Vinay!

You got it my friend. Have fun with this material!

There still are a few things to be refined further. You’ll be seeing some clarification as to what it means to remember and recall without effort.

A psychotic has his thought processes totally out of control. There is no mindfulness there. The first gradient would be to establish mindfulness with his physical environment by having him look at (perceive) physical objects and start handling them.

All Scientology processes which bring one in touch with physical objects are very helpful in situations where the thought processes are going out of control.

  • vinaire  On April 9, 2013 at 9:22 PM

The following processes of Scientology may help bring about mindfulness to those who are completely out of it, by using the easiest gradient of perceiving physical objects:

    (1) OPENING PROCEDURE OF 8-C, STEP “a”
“Do you see that object?” “Walk over to it.” “Touch it.” “Let go”

    (2) OPENING PROCEDURE OF 8-C, STEP “b”
“Pick a spot in this room,” “Walk over to it,” “Put your finger on it,” “Let go.”

    (3) OPENING PROCEDURE OF 8-C, STEP “c”
“Pick a spot in this room,” “Walk over to it.”
“Make up your mind when you are going to place your finger on it, and do so.”
“Make up your mind when you are going to let go, and let go.”

    .

The following Scientology process is also appropriate for those who are not up to applying mindfulness to mental objects.

    OPENING PROCEDURE BY DUPLICATION

    “Do you see that book?”
    “Walk over to it.”
    “Pick it up.”
“Look at it.” (usually he was looking at it but now looks at it more closely)
    “Give me its color.”
    “Give me its weight.”
    “Give me its temperature.”
“Put it back exactly as you found it.”
    “Do you see that bottle?”
    “Walk over to it.”
    “Pick it up.”
    “Look at it.”
    “Give me its color.”
    “Give me its weight.”
    “Give me its temperature.”
“Put it back exactly as you found it.”

Most people who had or were put in trouble “on post” in the Sea Org, and who were sent to me to run on the decks doing manual labor, were relieved and grateful to be able to do something less mental and more physical. Regardless of their feelings about the justice action being taken against them, I’m trying to remember anyone who didn’t enjoy relaxing their minds for a bit and doing manual labor.

Yes, mindfulness seems to be more basic than two-way communication. The gradient for mindfulness seems to be from physical to mental objects.

Well, that gives me an idea for a blog post on “Mental Aberration and Psychosis.” I shall start doing research on it.

          .

  • vinaire  On April 11, 2013 at 6:47 AM

The problem with a person with extreme aberration are two-fold:
    (1) Getting the person’s attention.
    (2) Moving the person toward mindfulness.

On (1) mimicry seems to be the best way to get the person’s attention. Simply mimic the person without saying anything until you have his attention.

On (2) it is important to have surroundings that are not threatening or disturbing to the person. Once you have the person’s attention, direct it toward recognizing physical objects in his surroundings. Ask the person to perceive physical objects through different sense channels, such as, through seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting. The sense channel of mind should not be used. In no way should the person be asked to look at mental objects. All conversation must deal with physical objects.

It has to be a steady progress toward establishing mindfulness with physical environment. Once the person is mindful toward his physical environment to a reasonable degree, only then Grade 0 processes may be run.

Lately I have been looking at Mindfulness more deeply. The more I look at it, the more I find it to have something to do with the very fundamentals of life and living. I believe that sanity itself may be defined in terms of mindfulness. I like the following definitions:

SANITY = Mindfulness, or perceiving things as they are.

MENTAL ABERRATION = A deviation from mindfulness.

PSYCHOSIS = A display of extreme deviation from mindfulness.

Mindfulness may be defined in terms of its different aspects as in 12 STEPS OF MINDFULNESS, but all these aspects sum up to “seeing things as they are.”

Mental aberration starts with the loss of mindfulness. The person stops seeing things as they are. He starts to believe in his assumptions, speculations and conjectures. The more he does that the more mentally aberrated he becomes. He no longer recognizes inconsistencies and starts to justify them.

In life we see people doing that most of the time. They still pass as sane. This is because this mental aberration is at a subjective level, and it is not taken seriously. However, when that aberration starts to manifest itself at the level of physical reality it becomes a serious issue. The person is now so much in disarray mentally that he has difficulty recognizing physical objects for what they are. His ability to function is very much compromised.

So, the mental “sickness” may start much earlier before it becomes a visible liability. I am now looking at methods that may be applied to reduce psychosis in a person, so that, normal subjective methods as in the OP could then be applied.

    .

  • vinaire  On April 13, 2013 at 6:36 AM

A normal person has the ability to see the physical reality for what it is. The physical reality is always in the present time. Time seems to enter at the level of subjective reality only.

The simple fact behind our reaction to psychosis is that we do not understand this condition. It seems that when a psychotic break occurs, a person sinks completely into subjective reality. He loses clear perception of physical objects and their mass, energy and space. He loses touch with physical reality and becomes a captive of subjective time.

It seems that the physical reality provides some sort of balance or stabilizing factor. When the link with physical reality is lost, everything about that person becomes unpredictable. The whole effort then, in the handling of a psychotic, should focus on re-establishing that link with physical reality. No subjective communication should be attempted.

    .

  • vinaire  On April 13, 2013 at 7:12 AM

An optimum mind should be able
    (1) To see mental and physical objects as they are.
    (2) To spot inconsistencies and form conjectures that are consistent.
    (3) To resolve inconsistencies by discovering underlying consistencies.

    .

    • vinaire  On April 13, 2013 at 7:19 AM

All consistencies simply merge into each other. Only inconsistencies seem to stand out.

The basic test of an organism is, “Can it create and resolve inconsistencies?”

      .

  • vinaire  On May 8, 2013 at 12:54 PM

    The sequence seems to be:

    Unknowable background
–> a tautological system, totally consistent (native state)
–> inconsistencies introduced into the system (introduction of self)
    –> a persistent system (persistent “I”)

What is called “charge” in Scientology seems to come about with the introduction of inconsistencies.

Charge is tension. It is very difficult to predict all the twists and turns that go into making up the charge. There are considerations involved of individuality, self, other, entity, ownership, responsibility, and so on. All these things sort themselves out as mindfulness is applied to the charge.

Charge is bypassed only when mindfulness is not practiced in a session. One should simply look at what appears in response to an auditing question. If mindfulness is being practiced and still no answer appears to an auditing question, then most probably that question is not charged.

The needle may not float in spite of there being no charge on the question asked. This would be the case when there is some other charge sitting there, which requires a different question to be asked. Thus, wrong question, or wrong C/Sing is very likely to create bypassed charge.

It is very difficult to do precise C/Sing ahead of time. C/Sing can be done only in broad terms.

    Mindfulness works better.

    .

    • Chris Thompson  On May 8, 2013 at 5:48 PM

Vin: Charge is bypassed only when mindfulness is not practiced in a session.

Chris: Or anytime mindfulness is not practiced.

        • Chris Thompson  On May 9, 2013 at 1:21 AM

And the more we treat it that way, the more inconsistencies we have time to level. Scientologists waste their lives waiting to go in session with everything just so perfect — model session must by definition include money paid and adequate hours on account before the C/S will give the go.

Any charge is tension like in a wound up spring. The very idea of “individuality” has tension of ownership, responsibility, etc. When one is no longer fixated on individuality the problems of ownership and responsibility take care of themselves. All that is really important is mindfulness.

    The real issue is “individuality”.

Charge goes all the way back to when the individuality came into being. So, the charge is not going to be eliminated by any one process in one go. Charge is peeled off like the layers of an onion. When one is talking about as-ising the charge, it is as-ising that portion of the charge that has become visible.

Grades simply as-is that portion of the charge that has become visible during the running of the grades. There seems to be confusion between “as-is” and “release”.

“Release” is simply the “as-ising” a layer of the charge (remember the onion!)

    .

  • vinaire  On May 8, 2013 at 1:01 PM

Many problems seems to be embedded in the very concept of ‘individuality’. Scientology caters to individuality and that is the highest reality it recognizes. Thus, it cannot deal with problem inherent to individuality.

Individuality is a fixation on ‘separation’. This is a phenomenon of MENTAL SPACE. The individual cannot expand beyond his consideration of himself. This is where Scientology is limited.

I don’t think that fixation on self is a result of Scientology. Most people are already fixated on self even before they encounter Scientology.

Scientology is fixated on self also, and provides methods to make self stronger. These appeals to most people because of their fixation on self.

Perception goes beyond self, where the perception-point is not fixated as self or individuality. In this state the perception-point is fluid and ever changing.

Existence is what is perceived physically and mentally. It includes one’s inferences drawn from perception. It also includes self-awareness and self and its fixation.

Other dynamics can be looked upon from the viewpoint of self; and that would be the result of fixation on self. When there is no fixation on self, there are no dynamics.

Dynamics seems to be a system of convenience of looking at things. If this system is discarded the existence is still there, only it is not being looked through the lens, or filter, of dynamics.

Simply referencing everything from the point of self or thetan, implies fixation on self or thetan.

What we have in Quantum Mechanics is mostly mathematics (thought experiments) with very little actual perception. Thus we suffer from inconsistency.

The whole purpose of mathematics is to help one think systematically. It is the highest form of logic that assures consistency.

But like any logical conclusions, the conclusions from math must be verified by looking (experimentally) to be assured of consistency on a broader scale.

Guidance from another person is needed only when a person is very confused and has lost all his bearings. This is where the Objective Processing of Scientology comes in handy. It pulls a person out of introversion by making the physical universe real to the person. Now the person has some reality to hold on to while he tries to look.

Still some guidance is needed to get the person started on the path of looking. The person’s mind is racing and he finds it hard to control. Meditation may help but it is not very structured. Some people may need more structured guidance. This is where lower grade Scientology auditing may come in handy. This auditing may be continued only to a point that a person has some realizations, and he is stabilized enough to start looking on his own.

At this point, a person should be encouraged to start looking at inconsistencies that he finds in his life and environment. The KHTK approach is helpful here. Another person should guide him only when the person runs into difficulty, otherwise let that person get on with it. KHTK provides some exercises. To handle difficulties at this stage the IDENICS approach may be helpful. However, no further Scientology auditing is necessary. The person may simply get better and better with practice in looking at inconsistencies.

Scientology E-meter is actually unnecessary. All that is needed is an understanding of mindfulness. Scientology lower grade processes can be run more easily with mindfulness in a friendly environment that allows for discussion.

Engram running may require a bit of focus, but it becomes very natural if the KHTK rule of LETTING THE MIND UNSTACK ITSELF is followed. There aren’t many engrams. They just come out in the wash.

There is no separate OT case. From beginning to end it is the same process of spotting and resolving inconsistencies. First easier inconsistencies get resolved and the person starts to become more capable for resolving greater inconsistencies.

Thetan (being) is basically a point of knowledge. Suppose, we consider a PACKET OF KNOWLEDGE as an “object” then the thetan would be the “CENTER OF MASS” of that “object.” It is simply a convenient concept. Body thetans or more like “CHUNKS OF KNOWLEDGE” that are part of the whole packet of knowledge. The “chunk of knowledge” is simply not consistent with the whole “packet of knowledge.” That inconsistency needs to be dissolved. When that happens all the knowledge becomes consistent.

    .

  • vinaire  On May 8, 2013 at 1:24 PM

    (1) Knowledge comes about as a result of logical associations among what is perceived.

    (2) “I” generates itself as the “center” of knowledge that has accumulated around a perception-point in space.

    (3) The perception-point gets fixed in space due to knowledge, so it becomes an “I”.

    (4) “Taking responsibility of one’s creations” simply means sorting out inconsistencies among physical and mental objects perceived. That’s it.

    (5) “I’s” are connected to each other through perception and knowledge. Thus, there are inconsistencies that are common to “I’s”.

    (6) “I’s” associate themselves with bodies. So there are inconsistencies connected with bodies.

    (7) “I” or individuality are simply points of focus just like the assumed “center of mass” of an object.

    (8) Scientology tried to deal with the subject of perception and knowledge, But it made “individuality” the focus and got fixated there.

    (9) One needs to understand the “mass” and not merely get fixated at the “center of mass.”

In my opinion the ultimate responsibility lies in removing all inconsistencies in oneself and in one’s vicinity.

    .

  • vinaire  On May 10, 2013 at 12:52 PM

    (1) Considerations have properties of their own. They interact with each other like different atoms and molecules react with each other. I call this the chemical model.

    (2) “I” is simply the “center” of a cluster of considerations. It does not create or manipulate considerations. Considerations interact on their own based on their properties and proximity.

    (3) Self-determination would be the ability of the considerations represented by the “I” to somehow modulate themselves. This is an area I want to look more closely at.

    (4) The resultant vector of these considerations appears as the purpose of “I”.

    (5) Most of these considerations in a cluster are very much fixed, just like the electrons in the inner shells around the nucleus of an atom. Only the surface consideration interact similar to the electrons in the outermost shells of atoms.

    (6) So, I think that the laws that govern the interaction among these clusters of considerations are pretty much beyond “I”.

    (7) When a person advises another person, it is like one cluster of considerations interacting with another cluster of considerations.

Awareness takes what is available there, in a natural way without effort. It is not to say the ‘awareness’ WHAT to look for! And ‘she’ to offer WHAT exhausting. Is that correct ? 2nd Question. You’ve exposed grade 0. The scn, in his “style” has comm. PB ? Since there is the issue of copyright. I know the story of: it is in the public domain. It is half true. D. Mayo in a recent post, says that is not so. But whereas there is always a copyright . Put that you make a book with copyright. Then the book becomes the public domain. But the copyright is still valid. Everyone can use your book? I have misunderstood this question ? I feel in Italy: Scientology free ! But “scientology” has copyright. Let me know . Nic ARC infinite”

      .

When one is digging into the mind, one is making lot of assumptions. This alters the perception of what is there and creates a lot of trouble. This is how ‘lie factory’ comes about and correction lists become necessary. Hubbard failed to make this connection.

KHTK approach is totally safe because one is not digging into the mind. No correction lists are required. KHTK also works faster because no time gets wasted on wrong questions. Wrong questions are simply dropped. Nothing is forced.

In answer to your second question, Scientology materials are copyrighted but not the knowledge. Scientific research is done with knowledge freely exchanged. Use of KHTK is totally free.
